Dead by Daylighthas continued to cement quite an impressive legacy for itself over the last eight years. When it first launched in June 2016,Dead by Daylightbreathed new life into the asymmetrical multiplayer market, especially in the horror genre. The one-versus-four dynamic paved the way for strategy, teamwork, and plenty of intensity, and though others have tried to take its crown in the last few years,Dead by Daylighthas stayed standing tall.

A major part ofDead by Daylight’s successhas been its continuous stream of updates over the last eight years, each of which has added at least one new Killer or Survivor to the game. Each of these new playable characters has come with its own set of unique Perks, cosmetics, and lore, and it’s that latter addition that could pave the way forDead by Daylightto become the gaming world’s own Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Announced back in December last year,The Casting of Frank Stoneis set to release on September 3, and it could mean big things for theDead by Daylightfranchise. Being developed by Supermassive – the studio behindUntil DawnandThe Dark Pictures Anthology–The Casting of Frank Stonewill be a narrative-driven game set in the same world asDead by Daylight, though it’s currently unclear just how much the spinoff is going to tie in with the original horror game.

If all goes to plan, however, andThe Casting of Frank Stoneis successful, fans can probably expect to see the floodgates open intheDead by Daylightuniverse. A logical next step would be for Behaviour Interactive to add the spinoff’s titular killer to its multiplayer game, tying the two together as overtly as possible. From there, Behaviour Interactive has plenty of directions it can take theDead by Daylightfranchise, and subsequent spinoffs could be a solid option.

There are currently36 playable Killers inDead by Daylight, 22 of which are original creations, many of whom already have some intriguing lore surrounding them. It might be a fun idea to keep on expanding the universe ofDead by Daylightby delivering more narrative-focused spinoffs, this time revolving around the Killers already inDbD’s roster. If those worked out, then some spinoffs centered on the original cast of Survivors could also be interesting to see. Before fans know it,Dead by Daylightwill have become its very own gaming universe, akin to Marvel’s own sprawling entertainment network.

An interesting wrinkle to this is thatDead by Daylightis already a sort of universe, though in a very different way. Over the last eight years,Dead by Daylighthas become a hub of horror pop-culture, with it now featuring well over 20 crossover characters from various horror properties ranging from movies likeSawandHalloweento fellowhorror games likeResident EvilandAlan Wake. These crossovers have seemingly been fairly lucrative forDead by Daylight, and it seems likely that fans can expect to see plenty moreDbDcrossovers in the near future. And with each new crossover that appears inDead by Daylight, the larger its already-sprawling universe becomes.
