Bethesda has crafted an expansive universe for players to explore inStarfield, and it seems all its mysteries have yet to be uncovered. There are still planets and moons to explore, as well as a wealth of information to find out about the history of The Settled Systems and the factions that inhabit it. It appears players will be getting some answers with the upcoming DLC Shattered Space.
The newStarfieldDLC will delve deeper into the tale of House Va’Ruun, a secretive faction with spiritual beliefs and an obsession with Grav Jumping. This is a good move on Bethesda’s part, as the faction was explored nearly enough in the main game. The studio should do the same with the other factions and release a DLC that focuses on each of them.
What Starfield Can Learn from the Shattered Space DLC
Not much is known yet about theShattered Space DLC, but the trailer reveals that it’ll focus on House Va’Ruun. This is good news, as the faction was not highlighted in the main game and while players could choose the Serpent’s Embrace as one of their traits, it didn’t reveal anything about the faction. This will change with Shattered Space, which appears to take on horror themes. Hopefully, the DLC will answer many questions surrounding the faction, including its obsession with the Great Serpent and its spiritual beliefs regarding Grav Jumping.
Starfieldcould do the same with other factions. Even though these factions were explored in further detail, there are still some questions lingering. Future DLC focused on theFreestar Collectiveor the United Colonies could offer greater insight into the feud between the two and the Colony War that took place from 2308 to 2311.
Other DLC could also focus on theCrimson Fleet space pirates, revealing more about its origins, internal struggles, and rivalries with other factions. Furthermore, new gaming mechanics could be added to increase immersion and make players feel like they are truly part of the faction. For example, players who are in a Crimson Fleet outfit shouldn’t be attacked by other Crimson Fleet members.
The same could be done with Ryujin Industries, a faction focused on corporate espionage. With aRyujin-focused DLC, the game could delve deeper into cyberpunk themes and even introduce new locations like Neon where there are bustling streets and skyscrapers squashed together. The new DLC could delve deeper into the darker side of Ryujin Industries, showing players just how far the faction is willing to go to achieve its goals. The DLC could also introduce new gameplay aspects, such as the ability to hack into computer systems.
Starfield and a Possible Starborn DLC
Rumors suggest that the second DLC will be focused on the Starborn. These rumors are motivated byZeniMax Mediafiling a trademark for the term “Starborn.” There isn’t much revealed about the Starborn except that they have passed through the portal known as the Unity.
TheStarborn are perhaps the most interesting aspect ofStarfield, and a DLC focused on them would answer many questions, including their connections to the strange artifacts. It would also be possible to follow a Starborn storyline that gives players special abilities, new missions, and access to guns and armor. Players could also have a choice regarding whether they want to align themselves with the Starborn or whether they want to stand against them, leading to branching storylines.
Starfieldhas plenty of room to grow, and it can do so through DLCs. These DLCs should follow the example set by Shattered Space and feature storylines focused on different factions. In doing so, players learn a lot more about the various factions ofStarfieldand have the chance to explore different gaming mechanics.
