The Black Bear Guai serves as the final challenge in chapter 1 ofBlack Myth: Wukong. The True form of the Black Wind King, the Blay Bear Guai is a massive bear with command over flames that retains the black wind attacks utilized by his previous form. He will face off with the Destined One at the peak of the mountain, in a final effort to guard the Relic that rests there.
Fighting the Black Bear Guai can prove difficult because he is deceptively fast and fights you in a hazardous arena. Sections of the floor are ablaze, dealing damage and lighting the Destined One on fire if he steps on the flames. ThisBlack Myth: Wukongguide will discuss the Black Bear Guai’s attack patterns and suggest strategies for taking him down.
Preparations
Since we’re still in Chapter 1, we don’t have many spell options to work with, and we’re lacking in alternative drinks and soaks to put in them. That said, there are still some preparations we can make to reduce the difficulty of this fight. The biggest step we can take in making this fight easier lies in a Secret section of Black Wind Mountain.Throughout the mountain are three bells that, once rung, will grant the Destined One access to a secret areacalled “Ancient Guanyin Temple.”
Inside the temple is a boss called Jinchi, who leaves behind the Fireproof Mantle when defeated. This vessel grants immunity to damage from lava-covered terrain, greatly enhances your burn resistance, and grants immunity to burn and regenerates your focus when activated. Using this well can make the boss fight much easier.
Boss Moveset
Phase 1
Black Bear Guai tends to start the fight by dashing to the side, turning into black wind.Keep an eye on him, since he’ll reappear briefly and then charge at you, turning into wind during the charge to make himself harder to read. Stay calm and dodge just after he reappears, when he slashes at you. When he’s in melee range, Black Bear Guai tends to use horizontal slashes, either two in quick succession or a single swipe followed by a ground slam. dodge through his attacks whenever possible and land some hits after the slam.
When he jumps into the air, dodge to the side or forward through him to avoid an incoming grab and be ready to keep dodging since he can transition the failed grab right into his melee combos. If he stomps and roars, he’s getting ready to perform two consecutive forward slams followed by a wide arm sweep, so dodge through all three and punish him while he recovers (dodging towards the arm sweep with decent timing will let you pass through harmlessly.) Alternatively, using Cloud Step is a safe and reliable way to avoid this attack and deliver a counterblow that knocks the boss off balance.
Black Wind Guai can also jump high and perform a sort of elbow slam, usually when you’re standing behind him. Dodge this slam, and he’ll be left open to counterattacks for a moment or two as he gets back up.
Phase 2
After dropping Black Bear Guai’s health bar to half, he’ll rear up and perform a ground slam that wreathes his claws in fire and expands the flames on the battlefield. He starts making use of his Black Wind transformation much more frequently in this phase, turning into wind and dashing across the arena at you. This deals damage if it hits you,so watch for the brief flash and audio cue just before he charges, and dodge around a half-second after seeing it to perfect dodge the charge. After dodging a few, he’ll fly towards you and change back, performing a lunging swipe. Dodge to the side and use the opening after this swipe to counterattack. The boss will also turn into black wind to reposition before using melee attack combos, so watch out when you think you’ve got them cornered.
At the beginning of this phase, the flames around the arena will grow more intense before spreading out to cover more of the floor, so you should use the Fireproof Mantle to gain immunity to burn and give yourself more freedom to maneuver. All of Black Bear Guai’s combos from the first phase are imbued with flame now, and his ground-slamming attacks will cause explosions of flame that can hit you from a short distance away, so it’s more important than ever to time your dodges and pick your moments when attacking.
