Preparations - Suggested Spells and Finding the Wind Tamer

There are a few ways to make the fight against the Yellow Wind Sage easier, the most prominent of which is theWind Tamer. This vessel improves your damage resistance and can be used to dismiss the Samadhi Wind that the Sage summons. To track down theWind Tamer, you’ll need to complete the Yellow-Robed Squire’s quest and enter the Secret: Kingdom of Sahali. After defeating the boss there, you’ll receive the Wind Tamer.

When selecting spells, both theRed TidesandAzure DustTransformations are decent choices here. Burning the Sage can cause quite a lot of damage, makingRed Tidesa good choice, butAzure Dustmakes you incredibly tanky and can knock him flat if you manage to land the heavy attack or spell. The new parrying spell you got from the Tiger Vanguard,Rock Solid, is excellent for knocking the Sage off balance and giving you a chance to counterattack. In terms of dishing out damage, Pluck of Many is insanely good at tearing through the Yellow Wind Sage’s health bar if you use it right before, or right after, knocking him down.

Boss Moveset

Phase 1

When you first approach the boss, he tends to perform a series of slashes with his staff, sending out blades of wind toward you. With good timing, you can perfect dodge through these wind blades as they get close, though dodging to the side as they get close or hopping over the horizontal blades will also work. The Yellow Wind Sage usually fires two wind blades with consecutive staff swings, then vaults into the air as he fires the third blade. He can also fire a single blade before transitioning to an overhead slam that sends glowing spikes shooting out of the ground in a line. Luckily, this slam can be avoided by dodging to the left or right as the staff comes down. After the staff hits the ground, you’ll have a short opening to attack the Yellow Wind Sage while he recovers.

When you’re up close, the Yellow Wind Sage uses several melee combos. His most commonly used combo is a single horizontal swing, followed by a back-and-forth double swing, and then an overhead slam that sends out spikes in a line ahead of him. Much like when he uses the overhead slam after firing a wind blade, you can dodge to the side and counterattack while he recovers from the final slam.Stay mobile and dodge the combo until he performs the slam, giving you the perfect opening to counterattack. He will also perform a two-step attack where he stabs his staff into the ground, then jumps and performs a stomping attack. Dodge as he stabs down and again as he stomps, then get in a few hits if you’re feeling confident.

Another melee attack the Yellow Wind Sage can use is a combo that starts by drawing his staff back, causing the bottom of it to glow. He will then swing it forward, before performing a forward stomp, and then finish with a wide swing. This attack is pretty easy to avoid by dodging around to his side and making sure you aren’t in front of him.

The Yellow Wind Sage gets tricky during this first part of the fight by occasionally mixing up his combos. He can skip the second part of his typical melee combo and go right for the overhead slam, for example. It’s important to watch him carefully and only attack when you’ve definitely got an opening (after the overhead slam and after the third wind blade, for example.)Another good time to attack would be after using Rock Solid to parryan attack, or after you knock the Sage over with a heavy attack.

Phase 2

After his health has dropped by roughly 1/3, the Yellow Wind Sage will start to whip up strong winds around himself while boasting about his Samadhi Wind, whirling his staff overhead. If you have theWind Tamer, activate it now to stun him and dispel the wind, giving you a huge opening to pummel him with powerful attacks(this is also a great time to use Pluck of Many.) If you don’t have theWind Tamer, you’ll have to back off until the whirlwind surrounding him fades. It has a very wide AOE, so back away as far as possible.

During this phase, he will start disappearing and launching attacks from stealth. When he reappears rushing at you with his hand glowing, roll to the side to avoid the burst of spikes he’ll conjure and then dodge again as he performs two wide sweeping attacks a moment later. If he reappears as he leaps into the air towards you, roll to the side to avoid his vertical swing and then do it again as he returns from the opposite direction. If he appears flying towards you with one foot raised, he’s going for a stomp attack, so dodge to either side and attack after he stomps down.

After this part of the fight he will start using these attacks as regular melee combos too, so you should still look out for them even when he hasn’t disappeared.

He gains a new melee combo in this phase too, where he raises his hand glowing with light, before punching down into the ground and then slamming his staff down on the same spot. This is an easy one to dodge due to the wind-up, so just keep an eye on him and roll to either side as he performs each slam. He can also perform a staff swing before swinging a glowing hand upward, conjuring a line of spikes similar to the ones produced by his slam attacks. Dodge towards and around him so he isn’t facing you when he summons the spikes.

Black Myth Wukong_Yellow Wind King_Phase 3 Tornado

The Yellow Wind Sage’s most frustrating attack during this phase begins with him running at you and performing a quick kick. If you don’t dodge the kick he’ll launch you into the air and begin alengthy and unavoidable combo attack that will usually drain most of your health, if not all of it. Watch for him dashing at you to perform the kick and get out of the way by any means necessary since this attack is a grab and ignores invincibility effects likeRock SolidandResolute Counterflow.

Phase 3

After being reduced to around 1/3 of his health, the Yellow Wind Sage will start using some more powerful magic. When he stabs his staff into the ground and begins waving his arms, he will conjure a tornado that slowly follows you around the arena, damaging you and throwing you into the air if you come into contact with it. Since it moves slowly you can avoid it by moving away from it as you continue to fight, remaining aware of its position so you can retreat if it gets too close. Naturally, using theWind Tamerwill dispel the tornado, so use it when it’s off cooldown and take advantage of the brief stun to attack the boss.

The other dangerous attack to watch out for here is the Sage summoning Fuban, a huge beetle monster, to perform a body slam. The camera will automatically shift to show you Fuban descending on the arena, so dodge to the side as it’s getting close to you to perfect dodge out of the way. You can also back away and dodge to the side to get out of the impact zone, if you aren’t confident in your timing.

Other than those two attacks, Phase 3 is just more of Phase 2, so keep up the pressure and deal damage whenever the Sage leaves you an opening.
