Kay Vess and her adorable sidekick Nix will need more than just their survival skills if they’re to make it out of theirStar Wars Outlawsadventure alive. They’re also going to need an abundance of tools and upgrades for their weapons, Speeder, and Trailblazer, their ship.
A key component to your progression throughout Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft’s latest project is by becoming familiar with the game’s many experts andunlocking the various bonuses they offerto players. In the case of the Mechanic, one particularly handy upgrade is the Smoke Bomb, so this guide will show youhow to get the Smoke Bomb Compressor inStar Wars Outlaws, so you can work towards adding that ability to your arsenal sooner rather than later.
How To Unlock The Smoke Bomb Upgrade in Star Wars Outlaws
First and foremost, before players can get access to the Smoke Bomb, orany of the upgrades associated with The Mechanic expertinStar Wars Outlaws, they will first need to meet the expert herself,Selo Rovak. Thankfully, this interaction happens organically, so once you have progressed far enough throughthe opening main missionson Toshara, Danka will provide Kay with the required intel to find this expert. Simply follow this intel and meet Rovak to begin the sequence of events that will lead you to the Smoke Bomb.
Once you have met Selo Rovak, Kay will have the ability to fulfil the Mechanic’s crafting recipes to equip herself with a range of upgrades forher and her Speeder, one of which is the Smoke Bomb. To unlock the Smoke Bomb, you will need to collect the following:
While the last two are relatively easy to come by, you’ll need to know where exactly to look. For Polycarbonate, this is a very common material and can be found almost anywhere in Toshara, so be sure to use Nix to fetch any items you encounter orcheck if any merchants have it in stock, and your resource count should go up pretty quickly. As for the MG-2s, you’ll want to focus your attention on the Imperial areas. Use the map to identify where the Imperials are situated, and infiltrate a camp to find the required Power Exceeders. The Smoke Bomb Compressor, however, can only be found in one specific location, so it is worth noting the process you’ll need to undergo to acquire it.
How To Get The Smoke Bomb Compressor in Star Wars Outlaws
Before players can seek out the Smoke Bomb Compressor, they will first need toacquire the speed boost upgrade for Kay’s Speeder. Thankfully, this is done automatically when you meet Selo Rovak, but it is worth noting how it is used in this context. When attempting to acquire the Smoke Bomb Compressor, Kay and Nix will have to deal with a significant amount of wind strong enough to knock them over. To start the mission, players will need to enter the Boulder Forest cave as shown on the map above, and drive into it with the Speeder while using the speed boost. If you don’t use the boost, the Speeder won’t enter the tunnel.
Once you have entered the cave and come out the other side, Kay can dismount her Speeder andbegin climbing the wall by using the grapple hook. Once you’re up the wall, simply follow the path, slide down the slope, continue until you need to grapple across a gap, then make your way along the path until you come to an opening that is blocked by the wind. This is the first of a few wind-related puzzles, but the approach will more or less be the same: time your run correctly.
The wind challenges work on a loop, so it’s a simple matter of identifying the places where the wind is blocked, and moving behind them between breaks in the gale. In the first instance, make your way across the clearing, hide behind the rock, then walk around it and across the next clearing once it is safe to do so. Once done, continue along the path, defeat or sneak past the creature, and climb the wall again. You will encounter another wind-swept clearing, but this is easily managed by timing your run. You’ll then encounter another gap that you need to swing over, but be mindful that the wind blows over this gap as well.
The most challenging puzzle of this mission follows, as Kay will climb down the wall and head down the winding road until she encounters another clearing with a constant flow of wind. In this instance, there are no breaks to use to your advantage, but there is a simple solution here. By using the up button, Nix can scan the area, from which you will be able to identify a power source that Kay can shoot. To make use of this, simplyswap your blaster to the ion settingand shoot the generator. This will close the door and grant you a small window of opportunity to make it across the clearing.
The generator only works for a very limited time, so you will need to use it twice. On the first attempt, run behind the rock in the middle of the clearing. Then on the second attempt, you can get to the gap in the wall to the right of the door.
Once players are out of the clearing, there is only one more significant challenge to overcome before they can get to the Smoke Bomb Compressor. Once you have passed the gap in the wall, you will reach the room on the other side of the door you were just closing. The issue is the same here with the constant wind flow, so shoot the generator on the right of the entry point with your ion charges to get across, instruct Nix to hold one of the levers while you hold the other, then backtrack across the clearing and through the newly opened door.
Once through the door, players should open the chest to collect the Overgrown Amber Stone charm, then continue into the next room to grab the Smoke Bomb Compressor. With this item in possession, provided you have the other components, you will be able to unlock the Smoke Bomb from the Experts menu.
