Firewalk Studios’Concordis yet another combat-shooter entry for the PS5 and PC, and has high expectations from fans since it comes from Sony PlayStation. AlthoughConcord’s Beta didn’t have the best numbers, its aesthetic, gameplay, and story have shown great potential. A major aspect that cannot be forgotten is the big roster of characters, 16 to be exact. The game deviates from standard FPS classes like DPS, support, and tanks, and instead goes for its own take on categorizing its heroes.
A great new hero design is 1-Off, who belongs to the Anchor class. 1-Off here is not just a tank as he also brings certain utility mechanics that are of great help in defense. Essentially, he’s not a tank in the traditional sense of super high HP, and you may get heavily punished if you don’t make efficient use of his abilities. To ensure you have an easier time with the character, here’s a detailed beginner’s guide to 1-Off inConcord.
All 1-Off’s Weapons and Abilities in Concord, Explained
Firewalk’s new 5v5 shooter has quite a decent roster of heroes. Even though there was acontroversy drawing similarities betweenConcord,Guardians of the Galaxy, andOverwatch, the fact remains that the character designs have something for almost any kind of fan. For example, 1-Off may is not the tankiest of tanks out there. Fortunately, what he lacks in raw HP and movement, he makes up for with his abilities.
Class: Anchor
Anchor is 1-Off’s class inConcordand the Crew Bonus offered here is increased healing.
Primary Weapon: CC-1090 Industrial Vacuum
TheConcordAnchor class robot uses this vacuum to suck in highlighted materials around the map to recharge his active abilities, Air Barrier and Trash Bomb. It’s most important use, however, is to suck in enemy bullets and projectiles. This is easily the most important part of his kit in anyConcordPvP fight.
Secondary Weapon: Pressure Blaster
1-Off reverses the vacuum’s mode this way, pressure-blasting opponents with compressed air. It comes with 300 “rounds,” compared to the primary’s 60. The robot does great damage with it at close range, but the distance fall-off is steep and renders it useless beyond 30 meters or so.
Passive Ability: Scrap Detector
Neatly highlights all the objects on the map that 1-Off can suck in with his CC-1090 Industrial Vaccum. This is incredibly crucial since the materials are needed to power up the rest of his kit. The highlights are in good contrast against unusable elements, but in case you’re having trouble,Concordoffers extensive accessibility optionsthat you can go through to improve your gameplay experience.
Passive Ability: Tough as Nails
This passive ability allows 1-Off to take less damage inConcord, which is handy since he’s not agile and comes with only 300 HP.
Active Ability: Air Barrier
1-Off throws an air barrier or projector that can attach to any wall. The vortex that comes out deflects any projectiles that are being shot in its direction. It currently has three charges.
Active Ability: Trash Bomb
The robot throws a trash bag that bounces on the ground and enlarges to do AoE damage. It also has knockback, so it’s useful in messing up enemies' aim or throwing them off a platform altogether. 1-Off’s base variant inConcordcomes with the Trash Dispenser Combat Trait and offers five charges.
Combat Trait: Trash Dispenser
The Trash Dispenser is the first Combat Trait that’s available to 1-Off inConcord. It increases the number of Trash Bombs available and also makes them do more damage.
You will be able to use other Combat Traits and even outfits once character variants become available through game challenges. Although detailed information is not available at the moment,Firewalk Studios has teased plans forConcordSeason 1 and 2.
1-Off’s Movement Mechanics in Concord
Here are 1-Off’s movement abilities inConcord:
To play the robot to an effective degree, it’s important to remember that he’s slow; very slow, even when sprinting. Thus, right away, he’s not the choice for someone who prefers aggressive pushes, high mobility, and reflexes-based skill mechanics. If you want a character with such gameplay mechanics, it’s best to pick someone fromthe Haunt class inConcord, like Roka. This robot is perfect for support mains who can go on the offensive when needed, but mostly prefer to help out teammates instead.
Another part that can be a deciding factor in picking 1-Off is that he cannot double jump, or even triple jump likeConcord’s Roka. This makes sense given he’s a big robot, but it further hinders his movement and forces him to take the long way in certain map sections.
You will have to forego movement mechanics and focus on tanking if you wish to pick 1-Off inConcord, especially since you do not have access to any dodging animations either.
Gameplay Tips for 1-Off in Concord
Focus on Sucking in Projectiles and Tanking Damage
Concordhas been in development for a very long time. One place where this is apparent is the character classes, which are a bit different from standard FPS titles. To efficiently use Anchor class' 1-Off inConcord, you will have the best impact when you stick with the team and lead the charge. When starting a round, use the Industrial Vacuum and Air Barriers to nullify the opposing side’s opening salvo and give your teammates a good opportunity to strike. The Trash Bombs, too, can be incredibly helpful in clearing the infantry line.
Since 1-Off receives increased healing and has the vacuum, squishy teammates should ensure they take cover behind him whenever possible. Once a fight is underway and enemies are at low health and close enough, quickly take them down with the Pressure Blaster. However, you should also remember that the animation to change from primary to secondary “weapon” can take slightly longer than you may be used to with other characters. So, getting the timing down is important, especially if multiple enemies are present.
Keep Taking Up Material To Refuel Abilities
Remember to keep using the primary weapon to suck up highlighted materials wherever present. This will allow you to be topped up with Air Barriers and Trash Bombs whenever a fight takes place. It should also be noted that sucking up enemy deployables is exponentially easier than pressure-blasting them. Not only does this take away the enemy advantage like force shields and traps, but it also recharges your abilities and grants a small amount of XP.
Overall, you may be tempted to rush in and do damage when playing as 1-Off inConcord. But it’s important to remember that the Industrial Vacuum lends itself much better to teamplay and survival, ultimately being the superior weapon. Considering that the hero is quite slow and relies on nullifying projectiles, you will need to watch out for agile meleecharacters inConcord.
Don’t Rush in for Solo Play
1-Off may have 300 HP and takes less incoming damage to Crew Bonus, but he can die pretty quickly under fire from enemies who are spread out. His entire kit is centered around receiving healing and “stopping” enemy attacks, but he can’t do it to his maximum potential without any support. Opponents may even strategize to take you out first, since you would be “tanking” damage. This makes it important to keep a look around for any long-range snipers like Vale or even sneaky DPS characters.
Stick to the primary weapon and deployables for as long as possible and only go for the Pressure Blaster when a suitable opportunity opens up. SinceConcordis new and the maps may take some time to get used to, it’s always better to keep the Industrial Vacuum on hand, especially when going around corners and into the fighting zones.
