Manipulators can potentially hijack one’s aura nodes, even if they’re not a Nen user. It’s like they have a skeleton key to one’s energy system. However, once a target is under control, it’s hands-off for other Manipulators.
Distinguishing Manipulators from Other Nen Types
Manipulators stand out from other Nen types due to their unique approach to combat and problem-solving. Unlike Enhancers who focus on augmenting their physical abilities, orTransmuters who change the properties of their aura, Manipulators rely on control and strategy.
In terms of Nen type compatibility, Manipulators are most compatible with Emission and least compatible with Transmutation. This means they can more easily learn Emission techniques compared to other types, but might struggle with Transmutation abilities.
Personality-wise, manipulators tend to be logical, methodical, and often reserved. They excel at analyzing situations and devising complex strategies. This contrasts with the straightforward nature of Enhancers or the whimsical unpredictability of Transmuters.

If one’s floating leaves on water during the Water Divination test, they’re probably a Manipulator, and in for a wild ride.
Training to become a skilled Manipulator involves honing one’s concentration and willpower. Exercises might include meditation, practicing fine motor control, and developing a deep understanding of the object or concept they wish to manipulate.
Mastering Manipulation presents unique challenges. Users must not only develop their ability to control their targets but also learn to multitask, maintaining their manipulation while defending themselves or performing other actions.

Fans might’ve thought Manipulators were just side characters, but, some of these puppet masters have been pulling the strings behind some of the most pivotal moments inHunter X Hunter, and nowhere is this more evident than in the complex relationship between Illumi Zoldyck and his brother Killua.
Illumi’s needle manipulation abilityis a prime example of how Manipulators can shape the entire narrative from the shadows. By embedding a single needle in Killua’s brain, Illumi didn’t just control his brother’s actions – he rewrote Killua’s entire perception of reality.
The genius of Illumi’s technique lies in its subtlety. Killua was living with a puppet master in his head without even realizing it.
