With a few trailers now under its belt,LEGO Horizon Adventuresis beginning to look rather promising. Taking one of PlayStation’s most successful modern first-party franchises and giving it a family-friendly makeover,LEGO Horizon Adventuresswaps out its source material’s often serious tone for a much more lighthearted one, with plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor and playful jokes thrown in for good measure. On top of that,LEGO Horizon Adventuresis givingHorizon’s Machine-dismantling combat a more accessible overhaul, condensing down its combat mechanics.
Though it’s still a while away from release, it seems likeLEGO Horizon Adventurescould be the start of a new winning formula for both PlayStation and LEGO, and fans are already running wild with theories on what first-party franchise LEGO could adapt next. But regardless of whatLEGO PlayStation crossoveris next, there’s one key component fromLEGO Horizon Adventuresthe next entry needs to carry over.
LEGO Horizon Adventures' Voice Acting Needs to Carry Over to Future LEGO PlayStation Games
LEGO Horizon Adventures Gives Ashly Burch A Unique Opportunity
Generally speaking,Horizonis quite a serious franchise. Though it isn’t nearly as dark as fellowfirst-party IPs likeGod of War,The Last of Us, orBloodborne,Horizonstill tackles mature themes and keeps its humor to a minimum.Horizonis also a franchise that chooses to put its world and NPCs front and center of the experience, meaning that playable protagonist Aloy ironically doesn’t get that much time in the spotlight. Aloy has sometimes been accused of a lack of personal agency or motivation, and an arguably generic personality. But that’s far from voice actor Ashly Burch’s fault.
One of the most prolific voice actors around,Ashly Burch has been voicing Aloysince the very beginning, and her performance has often shone through the more generic cracks of Aloy’s surface. InLEGO Horizon Adventures, Burch is given free rein to take Aloy to new and expressive heights.
Based on the recent trailers and previews, it seems as though Ashly Burch’s performance as Aloy is being put front and center ofLEGO Horizon Adventures. With the game taking a more comedic approach to the source material, this version of Aloyis unlike anything fans have seen before, cracking jokes frequently and remaining upbeat throughout the adventure. It’s new territory for Aloy, and it’s refreshing to hear Ashly Burch have so much fun with this character.
Future LEGO PlayStation Games Need to Bring Back Key Voice Actors
If PlayStation and LEGO plan on collaborating more in the future, it’s vital any project follows inLEGO Horizon Adventures' footsteps and brings back the original game’s voice actors. In the case of franchises likeUncharted,Nolan North’s performance as Nathan Drakeis simply too iconic to leave behind. And when it comes to franchises likeGod of WarorThe Last of Us, it would be great to hear the likes of Christopher Judge, Troy Baker, and Ashley Johnson get to experiment with their characters in a completely different way, making wisecracks as Kratos or remaining oddly optimistic as Joel and Ellie. In doing this, these potential LEGO x PlayStation games can keep offering fans a new side of these beloved characters that they’ve never seen before.
