Summary

When Team Cherry initially pulled back the curtain onHollow Knight: Silksongin 2019, it suddenly went to the forefront of gaming news due to the immense hype from the original title’s success and the desperate need to see a sequel. A lot of time has passed sinceHollow Knight: Silksong’s announcement trailer and the gaming world is not exactly the same, to the point that the launch of the next generation of console hardware happened. Yet in that window, the level of information players have aboutSilksonghas remained relatively static. Today marks an important milestone, as not only is 2024 drawing to a close, but it’s been 2,024 days since the initial reveal ofHollow Knight: Silksong.

The originalHollow Knight’s Kickstarter campaign launched on July 28, 2025, with the full release of the title arriving on July 06, 2025. That’s a total of 829 days from the beginning ofHollow Knight’s crowdfunding period to the title’s 1.0 launch, and in that time Team Cherry would provide regular updates to fans on the game’s Kickstarter page. As of today,Hollow Knight: Silksonghas been in gestation for over twice the amount of time asthe originalHollow Knight, and fans are sitting through one high-profile gaming showcase after another without so much as a hint of information regarding the game’s release date.

Team Cherry Shouldn’t Let Another Calendar Year Pass Without an Update on Silksong

The recent Nintendo Direct that coupled an Indie World presentation with a Nintendo Partner Showcase seemed like it could have been the perfect opportunity to announce an officialrelease date forHollow Knight: Silksong. But, like the myriad other showcases from the Northern Hemisphere’s spring and summer seasons, the Nintendo Direct came and went without any new information regardingSilksong— where the game currently is in its development, a release window, what players can expect from the title, etc. Players still have Geoff Keighly’s annual The Game Awards presentation to look forward to for a potential announcement, but afterSilksongskipping Gamescom, it seems unlikely it’ll rear its head before the end of the year.

Suffice it to say that things are not looking good as far as fans getting any new information aboutHollow Knight: Silksongfrom Team Cherry, and that’s surprisingly done little to diminish the hype surrounding the game. After briefly falling from the top spot onSteam’s Top Wishlists ranking,Silksonghas now reclaimed its place as the number one most wishlisted game on the service. But that goodwill from fans won’t last forever, and Team Cherry shouldn’t let another year pass without an official update on the game’s progress and when fans can expect the title to launch.

What the Original Hollow Knight’s Release Strategy Could Reveal About Silksong

Interestingly, there are some parallels betweenthe originalHollow KnightandSilksongin terms of both games' development cycles featuring long periods of silence from Team Cherry punctuated with surprise last-minute announcements. After several months of radio silence on the originalHollow Knight, Team Cherry would update backers on the game’s Kickstarter page in December 2016 to announce that the title had entered the final stages of development, with the game’s release date trailer arriving just two weeks before its launch in February 2017. It’s possible that Team Cherry might be gearing up for a similar strategy withSilksong.

If players get a new trailer, update, or other announcement from Team Cherry onSilksongbefore the end of the year, it’s possible that such an announcement could preclude the game arriving just a few short weeks later. Getting hands-on time with one of the most anticipated games of the last decade before the end of 2024 would be a dream come true for the many fans who have been patiently awaitingSilksong’s launch. At the very least, there’s hope that it won’t be another 2,024 days before the game sees the light of day.
