Summary
This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268.
Megumi Fushiguro is one of the main charactersinJujutsu Kaisen, and at the same time, a character that fans have always held close to their hearts. Megumi is one of the shining lights inJujutsu Kaisen, and in fact, it can also be said that he is the most popular character in the series after Gojo.
Megumi is consistently among the top three most popular characters in the series, and that is a sign of the fact that the author has done enough to make him full of intrigue. However, at the same time, one absolutely cannot deny the fact that Megumi Fushiguro has been mistreated as of late in the story. In the Culling Game Arc, he was taken over by Sukuna, and, ever since then, he has simply been reduced to a vessel for the King of Curses, meaning his entire characterization and the build-up towards him having his own goals is essentially unfulfilled. While that is truly sad, at the very least, Megumi Fushiguro is alive, as fans recently saw Yuji free him from the clutches of the King of Curses.
Sukuna’s Run In Megumi Fushiguro’s Body
Ryomen Sukuna took over Megumi’s bodyin the Culling Game Arc. The basis for this was set quite early into the series. When Yuji Itadori died, Sukuna and he made a Binding Vow. Essentially, Yuji would be brought back to life by Sukuna using his reverse cursed technique. In exchange, Yuji would let Sukuna take control of his body for a minute after he utters the word Enchain. Sukuna promised that he would not kill his friends during this time, and a bargain was struck between the two. Yuji had no memory of this bargain being struck, but this Binding Vow essentially brought him back to life.
I’m feeling great right now. Don’t ruin my fun, okay? – Sukuna
Meanwhile, Sukuna knew that he would utilize this plan to switch to Megumi later down the line, and then try to fulfill his goals. In the Culling Game Arc, Sukuna got the perfect opportunity to switch to Megumi Fushiguro, and he did just that. Yuji was left in an absolute tatters when Megumi was taken over, and even though the young Zenin family member fought back, he was essentially subdued using the bath. After this, Sukuna was at the peak of his abilities. If that wasn’t enough, Sukuna actually had a big advantage in battles, as not only did he have access to all of his own powers, but at the same time, he also had access to Megumi’s 10 Shadows Technique.
These powers made him absolutely unstoppable in combat, with the only one strong enough to rival him being Gojo. In Megumi’s body, Sukuna did quite a lot of unthinkable things. Tsumiki was one of his victims, as were many others. In fact, Megumi’s very own sensei, Gojo, was his victim as well, and what’s even worse is that he managed to accomplish so using Megumi’s very own technique and body. Furthermore, Sukuna then went on to fight And eliminate many powerful sorcerers in Shinjuku, and his clash against Yuji Itadori ended up Becoming One that he lost.
How Yuji Itadori Freed Megumi Fushiguro From Ryomen Sukuna
Yuji’s Attempt To Rescue His Friend Continued Across The Arc
After the death of Gojo, Sukuna decided to reincarnate into his own body. This essentially healed all his injuries, and made sure that he was strong enough to fight the remaining sorcerers. Sukuna was resurgent once again, and this made the battles that he fought against the remaining members of the sorcerer unit very exciting. Fans knew afterthe death of Gojothat the one who would be taking him down would be the protagonist of the series, Yuji Itadori. Of course, the build-up to that happening was quite slow, but it certainly did come. Yuji grew tremendously in this battle.
Wake up, Fushiguro!! – Yuji Itadori
Not only did he manage to learn incredibly advanced skills, such as reverse cursed technique, but, at the same time, he also mastered barrier techniques, which he showcased in his fight against Sukuna. At the same time, Yuji revealed that he had also learned the power of two innate techniques. The first one was Blood Manipulation, which he gained access to after feeding on Death Paintings numbers 4 to 9, and, at the same time, it was also revealed that being Sukuna’s vessel paid off in its own way, given that Yuji gained access to the Shrine technique, which had essentially been engraved in his body.
All these powers put together made Yuji incredibly strong and worthy of fighting Sukuna. Furthermore, Yuji’s ability to deal damage to the soul played a great part here, and it certainly helped free Megumi from Sukuna’s clutches. He also delivered one powerful Black Flash after another in his fight against the King of Curses, and it was simply too much for Sukuna to put up with. Despite being the strongest, Sukuna was not able to withstand the incredible effort put in by Yuji, and eventually, he crumbled when Yuji opened his magnificent domain.
The Fall Of Sukuna And The Future Of Megumi
Once Yuji opened his incredible domain, fans knew thatthe battle against Sukunawas now about to end. Yuji Itadori gained a significant stat boost inside his domain, and, at the same time, he also had a powerful sure-hit technique. Sukuna, although strong, was not able to withstand the pressure that Yuji piled. Even when he tried to engage him in a hand to hand battle, Sukuna was overwhelmed. Yuji was truly at the top of his game inside the domain, and that was to be expected, given that he is the protagonist of the series.
Furthermore, Yuji’s efforts paid off by Megumi started to fight back as well, holding Sukuna back from counter-attacking. Finally,Nobara also joined and opened up the room for Yuji to deliver his final blowby delivering a strong resonance on the King of Curses. This essentially gave Yuji the opportunity to land his strongest black flash inside his domain directly at the gut of the King of Curses, and sending him flying he’ll stop
Sukuna was seen crashing into Yuji’s domain and flying through a couple of buildings. As he did that, Megumi was freed from his clutches, and what was left behind of the King of Curses was a blob of slime. For the first time, Sukuna realized that he was nothing but a pathetic and insignificant creature in front of Yuji. Finally, Yuji looked down upon him, and this battle essentially reached its conclusion.
Megumi, on the other hand, woke up and it was shown that he had fully healed. This means that a few days or, at the very least, weeks might have passed at this point already. Finally, fans can say that Megumi is safe. However, at the same time, his return is incredibly sad, because all the potential that he had essentially went to waste. There is no time for Megumi to develop even further as a character. All the abilities and the potential plot points that Gege could have addressed by moving forwardMegumi’s own character arc has essentially gone to waste. It is incredibly sad that a character of Megumi Fushiguro’s stature never truly ended up becoming what he could have been, but, at least fans can be happy with him surviving the last battle in the series.
