This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 267.
Gojo Satoru is one of the most important characters inJujutsu Kaisen, and it is quite safe to say that he is the face of the entire franchise. Gojo is, by far, the most popular character in the series globally, and fans from all over the world have come to love him for his personality, his strength, and his cool demeanor.Gojo is the utmost representation of strengthin the world ofJujutsu Kaisen, and along with him, Sukuna represents the same strength.
These two are two sides of the same coin, which is why a battle between these two strongest sorcerers were destined to happen at some point in the story. In Shinjuku Showdown, the battle of the strongest finally took place, and due to Sukuna having incredible buffs, thanks to megumi’s 10 Shadows Technique, it resulted in the death of Gojo Satoru, the strongest modern sorcerer. However, while Gojo’s death might seem to be permanent, there might be hope for him to come back, and much of that depends upon his battle against Yuji at the end of JJK.
Gojo’s Death In Shinjuku Was A Major Shock To All Readers
Gojo versus Sukuna began after the former wasunsealed in the Culling Game Arc. Shortly afterwards, there was a timeskip in the story, and the following arc, Shinjuku Showdown, saw Gojo beginfighting against the King of Curses, Sukuna. This was an incredibly exciting battle and one that fans had waited years to witness. Gojo vs Sukuna was a ferocious clash, and it lived up to expectations, being one of the mosthigh-octane and thrilling battlesthat the series has delivered. From high-octane action to unpredictable decisions being made by the sorcerers, this battle certainly had it all. It showcased Gojo at the best of his abilities against Sukuna, buffed byMegumi’s 10 Shadows Technique,on top of his very own. While this battle was largely even, withGojo dominating large parts of it,at the end of things, Sukuna was helped heavily by Mahoraga.
Because of Mahoraga’s involvement in this fight,Gojo was eventually defeatedas his Infinity was bypassed, thanks to Sukuna copying the approach that he took for adaptation. Sukuna increased the target of his slash to the entire world, which somehow included infinity as well. By being able to bypass Infinity, Sukuna was able to chop Gojo in half, essentially killing him in the process. As soon as Gojo died, fans got to see araid being led against the King of Curses, Sukuna.
Farewell, Gojo Satoru! I shall never forget you for as long as I live! – Sukuna
This raid saw Yuji, Higuruma, and other powerful sorcerers join one after another and start to whittle down an already weakened Sukuna. However, much of the attention of the fans was on Gojo Satoru, with a section of them wanting him to return at some point in the story.
How Gojo And Yuji Are Deeply Linked
Yuji And Gojo Has Compelled The Author To Make Special Plans
When speaking of Gojo’s return in Jujutsu Kaisen, one needs to keep in mind that Gege has already had his plans laid out for the end of the series. In Jump Festa 2019, he talked about which characters he wanted to survive and which characters he felt would die. while he did not explicitly name the characters, he mentioned that from the main four characters, which includeGojo, Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara,he plans to have two scenarios, one of which would come true at the end. According to Gege, eitherone character out of these four would dieand three would survive at the end of JJK, or, three characters would end up dying, with only one surviving at the end.
This was the original plan that the author had for the end ofJJK. Now, it must be remembered that plans change anytime, and it has been 5 years since.Gege could easily have changed his plan entirely, but there’s nothing that indicates that they have. For now, fans need to operate under the two endings that he has given them and because of that, the idea is that either one character survives or only one character dies.
Clearly, Nobara just returned, and Megumi is yet to be saved. Essentially, the possibility of three characters dying and only once surviving is cast aside. This means that at the end of JJK, one character from the main four will end up dying at any customer and only three will survive.
Of course, most fans would think that Gojo is the one dying, with Yuji, Megumi, and Nobarasurviving. However, that is where things get interesting. There is quite a heavy buildup for Yuji to die at the end ofJujutsu Kaisen, and that is precisely why Gojo’s return and Yuji’s death are linked together.
Gege Akutami’s Final Decision On Gojo Rests On Yuji Vs Sukuna’s Result
Yuji Vs Sukuna Will Wrap Up Yuji’s Domain
Gege Akutami is most definitely goingto base Gojo’s returnon whatever he wants to do with Yuji’s character. As things stand, Yuji is fighting his last battle against Sukuna, and he is dominating the fight. However, the battle is not over yet, and theKing of Curses will certainly not go down without a fight. That said, fans know that Yuji will most likely succeed in taking him down. But, the problem is whether Yuji himself is taken down in the process as well or not. At the very beginning of the story, the author heavily hints at Yuji dying at the end, with the people he loved surrounding him. This would be perfect for his character, given that he would have helped save Japan from the King of Curses and, in doing so, potentially even ended the cycle of curses.
If Yuji wanted, his story would come full circle, and it would certainly make for agood ending for this character. Similarly,Kenjaku also spoke of the fact that Yuji Itadori and Sukuna existing togethermeans that the cycle of curses will never end. As long as Yuji is alive, the cycle of curses will never end, andYuji and Sukuna will have to die together, in a way, in order for the cycle to finally break and the curses to finally stop. This also suggests that Yuji might actually need to die at the end of the series, and if that is to happen at the end of the series, then one simply cannot discard the possibility of Gojo returning.
Yuji dying at the end of JJK would mean only Nobara and Megumi would be alive, which means that a third character could very well come back, and this character would be none other than Gojo. His body has been stitched together perfectly and healed byYuta using the reverse cursed technique. Yuta himself might have been cleansed out of Gojo’s body using Jacob’s Ladder, and if that were to be the case, he could then return to his own body.
Even I don’t know what will happen after 5 minutes. – Yuta Okkotsu
This would mean Gojo’s own body would be unoccupied, and given the implicationin the story by Kenjaku, suggesting that the body is the soul and the soul is the body. Gojo’s very soul must be resting inside his body somewhere. This is further indicated by the fact that Geto started to choke Kenjaku upon hearing Gojo’s voice, and it would certainly make sense for fans to find a piece of Gojo inside his body, which would then come to life to make a better world after Yuji would make the ultimate sacrifice.
Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 268, is set to be May 14, 2025.
