Summary
This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 265.
Jujutsu Kaisenis currentlyin the Final Sagaand fans have come to love this segment of the story quite a lot. Right now, the series is focusing on the battle between Yuji and Sukuna, the King of Curses. This battle has lived up to all expectations, but the best is yet to come because fans have not yet seen the full capabilities of Yuji’s powers.
In fact, he hasn’t even had enough time to fully adapt to his newly awakened powers, which fans know to be the Shrine technique. Curiously enough, Yuji’s power is somewhat similar to that of Sukuna. In fact, both of them utilize the same technique, called the Shrine. However, there are key differences between Yuji’s version of the Shrine and Sukuna’s version of the said technique inJJK.
Sukuna’s Shrine Technique
Sukuna showcased the powers of the Shrine techniquevery early into Jujutsu Kaisen. He is an incredibly powerful sorcerer and his cursed technique is quite easily one of the strongest that fans have seen in the entire story. Essentially, Sukuna utilizes techniques that can slice and dice his enemies. Sukuna is like a chef. He has knives at his disposal, using which he can Cleave and Dismantle his targets. Using Dismantle, he can cut down his enemies in one fell swoop, while using Cleave, he can adjust the amount of cursed energy required to chop down his enemies. Both Cleave and Dismantle are some of Sukuna’s strongest attacks. He also has other powerful abilities that come with his technique, such as the World Splitting Dismantle, where he gains the ability to cut down anything in the world.
In time, your body will learn Sukuna’s technique! – Gojo Satoru
Furthermore, Sukuna also has access to Furnace, which can only be accessed by him after he uses both Cleave and Dismantle. Essentially he can then use fire to ignite his enemies and destroy them completely. These powers are what make Sukuna as special as he is. When imbuing these powers in his domain, Sukuna creates Malevolent Shrine, which unleashes a powerful barrage of blows on his enemies, leaving them completely destroyed. It is safe to say that Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine, and his cursed technique in general, is one of the strongest that fans have seen in the entire series, which is part of what makes him such an invincible sorcerer.
How Yuji Gained The Power Of The Shrine
Yuji Tapped Into The Shrine Technique In Shinjuku Showdown
While the Shrine cursed technique originally belonged to none other than Sukuna, he is not the only user of this power. The protagonist of the series, Yuji has also gained access to this ability as of late. The process for this actually began quite early in the series when Yuji became Sukuna’s vessel. Gojo made it known quite early that with time, Yuji wouldbe drenched in Sukuna’s cursed energy, which would mean that he would essentially be able to utilize his own techniques as well. However, this didn’t come to pass until much later in the story. Thankfully for the fans, this was not a forgotten concept and Shoko reiterated this later down the line as well. It was in the last arc of JJK, when Yuji hit powerful black flash against the King of curses, that his latent potential finally awoke and he gained access to this incredible ability.
Beneath the sparks of black…Yuji Itadori awakens!
Yuji then shocked the king of curses, and even though he wouldn’t like to admit it, he knew that Yuji was a sorcerer with tremendous potential. Uraume even went as far as to say that Yuji has potential equal to that of Sukuna, which means that he can become the strongest in the series in the future.
Clearly, Yuji and Sukuna both have the same cursed technique now, but there are certain differences between the two. Fans did not expect for them to have different techniques in a way.
However, the explanation that the author provided for it certainly does make a lot of sense, and it makes the techniques that form this power more interesting. Fans haven’t seen Yuji make much use of the Shrine technique as of yet. He has only utilized it on a couple of occasions, and while it certainly does look incredibly exciting, the best is yet to come. He hasn’t even showcased his own version of domain expansion with this technique yet, which is sure to be starkly different from that of Sukuna.
The Difference Between Yuji And Sukuna’s Shrine
Yuji And Sukuna Utilize Their Technique In Very Different Ways
When it comes to the difference between Yuji and Sukuna’s Shrine, the concept is quite simple. Yuji does not make use of Cleave, or Dismantle like Sukuna, and, subsequently, he wouldn’t be able to make use of Furnace like him either. This is because Yuji is not a chef. Sukuna takes on the role of a chef with knives at his disposal and a stovetop, which is how he summons the flames.Yuji utilizes scissors instead. His version of the Shrine sees him make use of scissors to make cuts around people and then chop off what he deems necessary. This means Yuji’s technique is completely different from that of Sukuna in the way how it works. While they both cut using Dismantle and likely even Cleave, Yuji is more precise with his cuts.
He marks the parts to cut using scissors and then cuts off what is needed, leaving the rest intact. Sukuna has an indiscriminate technique where he essentially fires slashes everywhere and chops up everyone in his path in a very brutal manner.
Yuji also differs in the usage of his techniques in the sense that he infuses soul power into them. For instance, fans know that Yuji has the ability to damage the souls of his enemies with his normal blows. In the case of his Shrine technique, he can actually infuse his cuts with the soul-damaging power. Essentially, he doesn’t hit his enemies from the outside, but hits Dismantle at their souls, which deals deadly damage to them. In fact, the damage is so dangerous that even a bunch of blows were strong enough to make Sukuna throw up his fingers and essentially lose form. Sukuna admitted himself that taking on blows fromYuji in this state would cause him to lose the battle, which just goes to show how dangerous Yuji’s cursed technique is.
Despite not being indiscriminate in slicing and dicing everything in his surroundings, Yuji’s cursed technique is special. It can cut, but in a safe manner. It doesn’t cause destruction and it is the exact opposite of how Sukuna uses his technique.Yuji will also infuse this technique in his domain, but what that will result in is unknown. Fans will most likely get to see that sooner rather than later. Hopefully, Jujutsu Kaisen will showcase more of Yuji’s Shrine technique to the fans soon enough, and there should be an ultimate technique that he has, just as Sukuna had the Furnace. In his case, however, this technique remains unknown so far.
