This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 267.

Yuji Itadori is the protagonist ofJujutsu Kaisenand is certainly among the most important characters in the series. Although not the most popular individual inJJK, Yuji has had a lot of focus thrown on him, and that is to be expected, given that he drives the story forward. Since Jujutsu Kaisen is currently in the Final Arc, Yuji is now more important than ever before, especially when it comes totaking down the King of Curses, Sukuna.

The responsibility of doing that now falls on Yuji Itadori, and that essentially makes this the most important moment in his entire life. That said, taking down Sukuna is no easy task, and can easily see one get killed, as has been the theme over the course of the last couple of chapters in Jujutsu Kaisen. The protagonist of the series, Yuji, can very well lose his life as well, and, in a way, it might actually be needed for him to die for the series to reach its perfect conclusion.

Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen

Yuji’s Death Teased At The Beginning Of JJK

At the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen, the idea of Yuji Itadori’s death was introduced in the story already. Fans got to see Yuji’s grandfather die at the beginning of the story, and when he did pass away, he had nobody around him. All he was left with were his regrets, and while fans don’t get a deep dive into those, what he mentions to Yujiimplies that he couldn’t help as many people as he wanted, and because of that, he didn’t have enough people surrounding him in his last moments. He asked Yuji to do the exact opposite and help as many people as possible, which would then ensure that when he did go on to die, he would be surrounded by the people he loved.

Make sure to help as many people as you can!

Of course, given that this was mentioned at the very beginning of the series, fans likely did not think much of it. However, looking back at this revelation, this actually might be a major hint as to what plans the author has for Yuji Itadori at the end of the series. Yuji could potentially die a major death at the end of JJK, and given that he would have helped so many people, potentially saving the entire world, he would then be surrounded by all the people who love him and hailed as the hero. This would, in many ways, be the perfect death for Yuji. He would want nothing more than helping his friends and avenge those who fell, along with re-establishing the order that he wanted.

Yuji’s death was also teased once again when he fought against a finger bearer. Essentially, Yuji actually died this time around, and was only revived thanks to the Binding Vow that he made with Sukuna. Here, Yuji fell in front of his friends, and for a significant period of time, even fans believed that he had died. Once again, this could have been a hint from the author that he does not shy away from killing even the main character, and that could potentially happen at the end of this story once again. If Yuji could sacrifice himself once, he could potentially do it again, especially in the face of even greater danger.

The Cycle Of Curses Continues With Yuji And Sukuna

Yuji Needs To Break The Cycle Of Curses

If the small hints dropped by the author at the beginning ofJujutsu Kaisenare not enough to convince fans about Yuji’s potential death, then, one simply needs to look at Kenjaku’s quote about Yuji Itadori and Sukuna existing together. According to Kenjaku, as long as Yuji and Sukuna coexist, the cycle of curses will never truly end. In many ways, Yuji is bathed in Sukuna’s cursed energy.

Yuji has to kill Sukuna for sure, but whether he will survive this or not is also an important question that fans need to ask. If Yuji does survive, whether the cycle of curses will truly end is something that remains to be seen.

Let’s end this cycle of curses, Sukuna! – Yuji

Perhaps, at this point,Yuji and Sukuna are linked to a level where only the mutual deathof both these characters would ensure the cycle of curse is ending. In fact, inJJKchapter 267, Yuji actually brought this up in their final bout. While facing Sukuna, Yuji told him that it was finally time to put an end to the cycle of curses. Fans might not have looked too deeply into these words at first, but, together with what Kenjaku said long ago, it certainly implies that either Sukuna is going to die here, or both of them are. If Yuji dies with Sukuna, then, the series will certainly go down a unique route the author suggested at the beginning and that would certainly be heartbreaking for many readers, but, at the same time, fulfilling in regards to a perfect conclusion that the author set up for the end of the story right from the get-go.

What Happens When Yuji Itadori Dies?

If Yuji Dies, Gojo Could Potentially Return To JJK

If Yuji Itadori, the protagonist ofJujutsu Kaisen, truly does go on to die, then fans will see a very interesting scenario at the end ofJJK. For one, fans will see the King of Curses fall. Secondly, Yuji will fall with him which would mean that the cycle of curses will truly be over. Cursed Spirits will likely drop significantly, and society in general will be much better off than it was before. However, sorcerers in general will be changed forever, because Yuji will not be around any longer. The group of Nobara, Yuji, and Megumi will be broken up, which would mean that Nobara and Megumi will then go on to continue Yuji’s legacy. Yuji will forever be remembered as a legendary sorcerer who defeated the King of Curses, especially because he’s the only one to have ever pulled something like this off.

Curiously enough, there is more to the scenario than just that. During Jump Festa 2019, the author clearly mentioned his plans to kill one character and leave three alive from the main group of four. Given that Megumi and Nobara are already alive, if Yuji dies, then, the possibility of Gojo returning from his death is also there. Regardless of which plan the author decides to go with,Gojo could potentially returnif Yuji does end up dying, and that could serve as a silver lining for fans mourning Yuji’s death.

Of course, Jujutsu Kaisen is ending in four chapters, which means that fans would not have to wait too long to see the conclusion of this incredible story and figure out whether Yuji truly dies andGojo returns, or, Gojo stays deadand Yuji survives at the end. Only time can tell.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 268, is set to be July 09, 2025.
