In an exchange in a TikTok comments section that was posted to Reddit by user Little-Purpose269, Larian swiftly shut down the idea that Auntie Ethel could be a romance option in the game. When TikToker won_hunna suggested a “non-violent solution in which we both get what we want,” Larian responded hilariously with a simple two-word response: “get out.” It’s safe to say how the developer feels about this possibility, and while there are plenty ofBaldur’s Gate 3characters that should have been romanceable but weren’t, Auntie Ethel isn’t one of them.
Larian Shuts Down Baldur’s Gate 3 Auntie Ethel Romance
Auntie Ethel inBaldur’s Gate 3is an extremely misleading character. Initially, she seems like a sweet older character, as well as one of the best hopes for the player getting the illithid parasite out of their head. However, following along with her ideas shows all is not as it seems, before she eventually transforms into her true form. This culminates in one of the toughest boss battles inBaldur’s Gate 3, and there are simply so many reasons that a romance storyline couldn’t work with her at all.
Larian Studios is set to release Patch 7 forBaldur’s Gate 3in September, and it’s going to be the biggest update for the game so far. The developer has already confirmed that thenewBaldur’s Gate 3update is adding a temporary new companion, as well as the long-awaited mod tools. Maybe would-be Auntie Ethel romancers will use these mod tools to get the romance storyline they want. It has also been confirmed that Patch 7 won’t be the last major update for the game, with crossplay and Photo Mode also planned at some point in the future. One thing is for sure: Patch 7 won’t be adding an Auntie Ethel romance.
