Summary

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagais the most ambitious LEGO video game project to date. While there have been some huge LEGO games over the years – with theLEGO MarvelandBatmangamesbeing particularly impressive – none can compare to the sheer scale ofLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, with it offering over 300 playable characters, over 20 fully explorable hub worlds, and an eye-watering number of collectibles and related side missions. But by far the biggest selling point ofLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagawas its eponymous collection of nine mainlineStar Warsmovies.

Though opinions are still very divided on a good portion ofStar Wars' cinematic releases,LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s promise to adapt all nine mainline movies was still an incredibly exciting one. And while some episodes were shorter than others and some relied far too heavily on open-world missions to fill in important story beats,LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagafulfilled its promise, and now, it’d be best for futureLEGO Star Warsgames to avoid these movies completely.

The Next LEGO Star Wars Game Needs to Break the Mold

LEGO Star Wars Has Explored The Skywalker Saga Enough

When the firstLEGO Star Warsgame released all the way back in 2005, it offered fans something completely new. WhileStar Warsgames had been around for decades before that point, none had offered such an accessible, charming, and humorous take on the franchise. ThenLEGO Star Wars 2: The Original Trilogyreleased just a year later, doubling down on the hot new formula and exploring the rest of the franchise’s movie offerings. And just one more year later, both games were bundled together into one neat, thoroughly enjoyable package titledLEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga.

For a while,LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Sagaremained aptly complete, though the introduction of theStar Warssequel trilogy would eventually change that. Six years after the release of an entire LEGO game dedicated solely toStar Wars: The Force Awakens,LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagawould debut, once again offering a complete collection of the mainline saga. Though it isn’t perfect,LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagais as definitive as aLEGO Star Warsgame can get, and with the four previousLEGO Star Warstitles before it, it feels as though the Skywalker Saga has been well and truly explored, though that doesn’t meana newLEGO Star Warsgamewouldn’t have places to go.

LEGO Star Wars Has a Lot of Content Left to Explore

The nextLEGO Star Warsgame has a wealth ofStar Warscontent to explore that isn’t part of the mainline Skywalker Saga. The best place to start is the multipleStar WarsTV shows that now exist.Star Wars: The Clone WarsandStar Wars: Rebelsare both worthy of full LEGO video game adaptations in their own rights, with the former having seven seasons and the latter having four, all of which are filled with now-iconic moments that could easily be used as the basis for LEGO video game missions.

A LEGO video game adaptation of all theStar WarsDisney+ showsalso has some strong potential. Though quieter shows likeAndorandThe Book of Boba Fettwouldn’t offer many blueprints for exciting missions, they’d fit nicely in a collection surrounded by missions fromObi-Wan Kenobi,Ahsoka,The Acolyte, and of course,The Mandalorian, which itself offers enough content alone for an entire LEGO game.
