Summary
It’s an exciting time to be both a Marvel fan and a gamer at the moment, asMarvel 1943: Rise of Hydrapromises an exciting take on Captain America’s time in World War 2.Rise of Hydraforces Captain America and the Black Panther to form a strained alliance in an attempt to stop the formation and rise of the titular evil organization. The opportunity to experience the turmoil of World War 2 as Steve Rogers and Azzuri is a thrilling prospect, but there might be even more in store.
Since the game isn’t scheduled to release until next year, much ofRise of Hydrais still a mystery, but the game could easily harbor a compelling connection toanother upcoming Marvel Comics adaptation:Marvel’s Wolverine. Captain America and Wolverine’s Time in World War 2
Fighting Side by Side in History’s Most Harrowing War
When thinking of Captain America’s origins, the thoughts of many may drift back to the MCU’s introduction of the character. Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes served together in the war, and although Bucky seems like alikely character forRise of Hydrato feature, Wolverine fought alongside them at one point as well.
Actually, there have beenseveral Wolverine story arcsthat involve his time in World War 2. For example, inWolverine Origins#19, the clawed antihero briefly teams up with Rogers and Barnes, but it doesn’t exactly go well. Bucky Barnes was immediately skeptical of the foul-mouthed mutant, which eventually led the two to have a physical fight. Another example is fromUncanny X-Men #268where Wolverine and Captain America team up to defeat Hydra and the Hand, which leads to a run-in with a young Black Widow.
The history of both characters fighting together has been long-established in Marvel Comics canon, so it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility forRise of Hydrato allude to this in some capacity.Rise of Hydraalready boasts an interesting cast of characters, but since it’s a Marvel property, there are bound to be some unexpected cameos thrown into the mix. A diverse group of Marvel characters have played a role in World War 2, and Wolverine is one of the most notable.
A Potential Wolverine Cameo in Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Feels Possible
Rise of Hydra Could Have Many Surprises in Store
There are plenty of questions aboutRise of Hydra’s villain. An appearance from Red Skull feels like a given, but there could also be some superhero or antihero cameos featured. It would be surprising if Bucky Barnes didn’t play some sort of role in the story, and if he appears,Rise of Hydracould take inspirationfromWolverine Origins#19. On the other hand,Rise of Hydracould simply hint at Wolverine’s presence in a clever way, including his mention as a small Easter egg.
IfRise of Hydrachooses to feature Wolverine in some capacity, it will be fascinating to see if the game is tied in any way toMarvel’s Wolverine. Since the games are being developed by separate studios, it is highly unlikely, but it would be fun to see how two different developers adapted the same character. There is an impressive number ofMarvel games on the horizon, andRise of Hydraaims to offer something fresh. Fighting in World War 2 as Captain America and Black Panther is going to be exciting enough, but well-done cameos could make the game truly special.
