Due to the numerous cameos, Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, saidthe film could open doors for MCU returns. Wesley Snipes' Instagram Post Confuses Fans
Wesley Snipes made a surprising cameo inDeadpool & Wolverine, reprising his role asBlade, which he last played inBlade: Trinityin 2004. Many were so impressed by his cameo that onepublished a reporttitled, “Cancel Mahershala Ali’s Blade Movie and Bring Wesley Snipes’s Daywalker Into The MCU.” The report by Sergio Pereira claimed that Snipes stole the whole show when he broke the fourth wall and said, “There’s only been one Blade. Only ever gonna be one Blade.”
Surprisingly, Snipes shared the controversial headline onInstagram, confusing fans about whether he agreed with the report. However, the actor seemingly just laughed off the issue by writing, “Y’all crazy! hahaha” in the caption. His post received several reactions, with one writing, “You reposting is crazier.” Another defended Snipes and wrote, “He’s reposting because he doesn’t agree. Did you read the caption?”
Pereira agreed with Snipes' line thatthere’s only “one Blade"and suggested it was probably time for MCU to start opening its checkbook for Snipes to reprise the role. According to him, Snipes' brief appearance in the movie “outstripped any other cameo.” Pereira wrote, “There’s a love for Snipes' interpretation of this character that goes back more than a quarter of a century. Much like Hugh Jackman has been Wolverine for several generations of fans, the same can be said about Snipes and the Daywalker. There’s a special sentimentality toward his version of Blade, and it’ll be difficult to replicate it.”
It was unclear in Snipes' post alone if he supported thecall to cancel the rebootand bring him back into the franchise. However, he previously expressed support for it. In a statement toEntertainment Weeklyin 2019 following the announcement of theBladereboot, Snipes thanked his fans for their “never-ending support” and encouraged them to relax while congratulating Ali, who was set to headline the movie.
“Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come. Inshallah, we will someday work together.” Considering his reaction, Snipes appeared ready to pass the mantle to the younger actor, Ali. - Wesley Snipes
Snipes portrayed Blade exceptionally, so it’s understandable why he gained thousands of fans who have continued to support him until today. Yes, the franchise he headlined was successful, and he is the OG. However, there’s room for both actors in the MCU. Ali could probably play Blade from an alternative timeline, just like how Marvel made a way to bring the three Spider-Man stars –Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland– together in the 2021 blockbusterSpider-Man: No Way Home. It’s also possible to have Snipes' Blade train Ali’s new Blade to officially pass the baton. There are many ways for Marvel to bring Snipes and Ali together in the reboot if they comply with fans' requests.
