Summary
Cancer survivor and wild mercenary Wade Wilson, orDeadpoolas he is most commonly known, is one of the superheroes who has seen their popularity explode in recent years. The ‘Merc with a Mouth’ is well known for his fourth-wall breaks, eccentric attitude, irreverent quips, and raunchy misadventures.
Ryan Reynold’sversion of Deadpool, debuting in the 2016 film, could be noted as the piece of media that caused this explosion in popularity. However, the red anti-hero’s many comic adventures have also shot the character to further fame. Fans are especially fascinated with the alternate variations of him that answer the questions asking ‘What if?’ These speculate on what would happen if Deadpool was in a certain scenario, combined with a certain character, or traveled to a certain world. Here are some of these comic stories that answer those questions best.
5What If Deadpool Was Venom?
Symbiotic Chaos
Of all the fictional characters who couldcombine with a symbiote, an anti-hero with a mind like Deadpool’s is potentially one of the most dangerous. The persona that often comes with the Venom symbiote is chaotic on its own, and creates more chaos when attached to even the mild-mannered Spider-Man. A symbiosis with the already chaotic Deadpool is simply a recipe for the worst disasters.
In this story, planet-eater Galactus hires Deadpool to help him deal with the weird problem of the Beyonderattaching MODOK to his backside. Deadpool must wield the ‘Retcon Expungifier’ to assassinate the Beyonder. Things don’t go according to plan, as a Venom-enhanced Spider-Man attacks the Beyonder. Spider-Man is attacked in return, causing the venom symbiote to leave him and merge with Deadpool.
Venom-Deadpool leads to a series of fun and wacky scenarios. He sells Tony Stark to AIM, triess and fails to join various superhero teams in his effort to be a real hero, kills many criminals, and becomes a king. There’s even a funny side-study on the prevalence of symbiote-infested Jheri-Curl hairstyles.
4What If Deadpool Teamed Up With Alternate Versions of Himself?
The Deadpool Corps
Though he is extroverted to an incredible degree, Deadpool is not typically known as a team player. He often prefers to act as a lone wolf, fighting, killing and dealing with whatever problems arise from his strange behavior on his own. But sometimes, theMerc with a Mouthfinds himself on a team of sorts.
In one comic storyline, the Deadpool of Earth-616, Deadpool (the main Deadpool) collects a team of Deadpools from across the multiverse. He forms the Deadpool Corps, a team constructed for the purpose of defeating a powerful figure known as ‘Awareness,’ which poses athreat to the multiverse. Deadpool Corp team members include 616-Deadpool, Lady Deadpool, Kidpool, Pandapool, Knightpool, Grootpool, Watari, Pandapool, Chibipool, Motorpool, Squirrelpool, Beespool, Dogpool, Championpool, Deadpool Pulp, Headpool, Hawkeyepool, Golden Age Deadpool, and many more. Through the Deadpool Corps issues and onwards, readers can meet all these different types of eclectic Deadpools from across the multiverse as they head up against entities such as Champion and Grandmaster.
3What if Deadpool Was An Anti-Mutant Hunter?
Earth-1610’s Human Supremacist
Despite the general tragedy that comes with being diseased, disfigured, and slowly losing his mind, Deadpool comes across as a mostly optimistic character. The same cannot be said for some of his alternate versions.
On Earth-1610, Wade Wilson is known as ‘Wadey Wilson.’ Here, instead of being the goofy but violent Merc with a Mouth, he is still violent but far more conventionally evil. He was a war veteran who served in the 90s, taking part in the horrors of Wakandan Warfare. This Deadpool is darker, holding a deep prejudice against mutants. He has no face, and pieces of his skull are missing. Whilst other versions of Deadpool might have an amusingfriendship with Spider-Man, this Deadpool finds himself in the business of capturing him when he’s not busy attacking the X-Mansion.
Unlike most other Deadpools, this Earth-1610 version possesses no mutant genes. He may be a cybernetically enhanced warrior, but he lacks any rapid recovery healing factor abilities that the other Deadpools are known for. Perhaps that’s what makes this version more bitter than the others.
The Deadpool War
From the way he behaves, it would be accurate to call Deadpool ‘one of a kind.’ But like many other comic characters, Deadpool has metmany different alternate versions of himself. At times, this proves to be a negative experience.
As mentioned above, there is a vast multiverse of Deadpools, including those who are members of the Deadpool Corps. This story features characters from the Corps such as Headpool. “Deadpool Kills Deadpool” shows him facing off against a giant deadly robot, helped by the Deadpool Corps. They tell him that Deadpools are being targeted, and it is revealed that the Deadpools are at war and the end of all existence is at stake.
As this story goes on, fans will read about many different Deadpools experiencing many different gruesome deaths. They also delve into the development of concepts such as ‘the Ideaverse,’ and Deadpool’s struggle with an existential crisis.
1What If Deadpool Attacked The Entire Marvel Universe?
Existential Crisis Murder Spree
Deadpool has a strange relationship with other Marvel characters. A decent portion of these relationships are some form of reluctant partnership where the other party barely manages to conceal their disdain for Deadpool’s annoyances. Sometimes, these other characters grow sick of Deadpool. But what’s more dangerous are the situations when Deadpool grows sick of everyone else.
“Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe” is the most infamous alternate-universe Deadpool storyline, and with good reason. The main plot of this wild story kicks off when an unhinged doctor meddles with Deadpool’s mind in an effort to make him a soldier in his army. What resulted instead was that the many voices that exist in Deadpool’s mind, from the joking to the serious one, were killed. The only one left behind was a voice that influences him to commit psychotic acts, starting with killing the doctor and the facility. Afterward, Deadpool goes on a horrific killing spree, eliminatingthe Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Avengers, the X-Men.
Once he is done with the Marvel Universe, Deadpool expands out onto the multiverse and starts tocomplete feats that should be impossible, such as killing the writers of Deadpool in our own world, the real world. All of this bloodshed occurs because of Deadpool’s struggles with being one of the few people who know they are fictional characters, and feeling the need to correct existence itself by killing all of its “puppet-masters.”
