Summary

Insomniac’sMarvel’s Spider-Manfranchise has always been successfully and satisfyingly self-contained but has never shied away from Easter eggs and references to its broader Marvel mythology.Marvel’s Spider-Manproudly adorned its New York City with an Avengers Tower, Wakandan Embassy, Sanctum Sanctorum, and more, tying these iconic locations to the equally iconic characters who frequent them. Then,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2made a more deliberate effort to point out its references; for example, Wong making contact with Miles is the closestMarvel’s Spider-Manhas allowed itself to come to an actual character cameo.

Now thatMarvel’s Wolverineis Insomniac’s next game, it could be poised to deliver some universe-shattering cameo appearances and shouldn’t pull its punches.Marvel’s Wolverineis still as under-wraps as it can be with how much was unfortunately leaked via a ransomware hack targeting Insomniac, but there are endless creative cameo choices it could make that would still be fully appropriate and purposeful by going beyond superficial Easter eggs and actually having a character appear for whatever amount of time.

Like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Wolverine is Likely to Have Plenty of In-Universe Easter Eggs

X-Men characters appearing would technically be cameos themselves depending on who they are, but they’d also naturally fall into the side character category due to how close they could be with Logan—like how Mary Jane Watson isn’t a cameo character in relation to Peter Parker, neither would Jean Grey be a cameo character in relation to Logan.

Therefore, because there is already likely to be a handful ofpopular Marvel characters present inMarvel’s Wolverine, any extraneous cameos or references may need to actually stretch into actual appearances to make them worthwhile and have an excuse to do so meaningfully.

The Hulk having a boss fight would be phenomenal, long-awaited fan service for Wolverine enthusiasts, for example, and no happenstance or rationale pitting them against each other inMarvel’s Wolverinewould be too inexcusable to overlook as a result. This would also let Insomniac capitalize on one of the few areasDeadpool and Wolverineonly scratched the surface of since it did reference the Hulk and Wolverine’s famous rivalry but neglected to actually have them battle on-screen.

The Two Biggest Possible Cameos in Marvel’s Wolverine are Already Obvious

Because of how beautifully Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman were able to portrayDeadpool and Wolverine’s heated, bloody relationship inDeadpool and Wolverine, it may be too good of an opportunity to pass on. That is especially true for Insomniac, a developer who’s also been heavily inspired by the animatedSpider-Versemovies for itsMarvel’s Spider-Manseries. Harvesting ideas from otherSpider-Mantitles is nothing new, and inspiration elsewhere being used forMarvel’s Wolverineis expected.

Now, if either Hulk or Deadpool do make an appearance it won’t necessarily be an idea lifted fromDeadpool and Wolverineexclusively, but it’d be difficult not to imagine that the movie would have some sort of impact onMarvel’s Wolverine. Given howMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moraleswas definitely inspired bySpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it’d make sense that Insomniac would commit to the same approach and have at leastaDeadpool and Wolverineskin for Wolverine.

Marvel’s Wolverine

Marvel’s Wolverine is a third-person action game from Insomniac Games that is set in the same universe as the studio’s Spider-Man titles.
