Renner has played Hawkeye across MCU films, including 2015’sAvengers: Age of Ultron, 2016’sCaptain America: Civil War, 2019’sAvengers: Endgame, and 2021’sBlack Widow. Additionally, he starred in theDisney+ seriesHawkeye. Hawkeye is among those who survived inAvengers: Endgameafter Black Widow sacrificed herself to save him and the world when they traveled to Vormir to get the Soul Stone. Jeff Sneider, a film critic and award-winning entertainment reporter, teased about Renner’s return inAvengers 5and6. He shared a video of Hawkeye onX, formerly Twitter, to make the announcement. He wrote, “If you thought JEREMY RENNER was going to survive a near-death experience and NOT come back for AVENGERS 5 to hang out with his old friends, well, think again.“Marvel Film Newsalso confirmed Renner’s return for the nextAvengersmovies. Earlier this year, Renner addressed his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following alife-threatening snowplow accidentin January 2023. He expressed interest in reprising his role, saying he was “always game.” Renner toldEntertainment Tonight. “I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready. All those guys come to my bedside and they’ve been with me all along through this recovery, so… if they want me, they could have me. It would be something.”
In an interview withMen’s Healthin June, Renner shared how his Marvel co-stars were a family for him. According to him, they formed a “brotherhood” or “sisterhood.” Thus, his return is possible because he wants it andhis character is still alive. “In the films, we look like we’re at a costume party, and there’s ridiculous props and we’re doing these ridiculous things, but it’s also beautiful because we’re all connected,” Renner said about their filming experience. “There’s a brotherhood or sisterhood or whatever the heck you want to call it. I just call it love. I love every one of them. I’d rather go to jail with Downey than go do something amazing by myself. I’d rather get in a car crash with Evans.”
It is anticipated thatAvengers 5will feature dozens of superheroes. However, only two of the originalAvengersmight be back. Black Widow and Iron Man, who died inEndgame, are unlikely to return. Captain America, who is now an old man, may not join the nextAvengersfilm, so as Hulk, who seems to have left without a story to explore afterEndgame.
