Summary
AMinecraftplayer with an eye for geography has created an immensely detailed scale replica of the state of Mississippi within the game, complete with major landmarks and natural features. The project was seemingly massive, with theMinecraftmap being seemingly true to what the real-world region looks like.
Whether it’s a giant castle ora scale model of the Eiffel Tower built entirely inMinecraft, the massively popular survival game is no stranger to impressive builds or other creative projects from players willing to sink hundreds of hours into the game. While a recreation of the state of Mississippi may be an unusual thing to make,it serves as an impressive show ofMinecraft’sscale and technical capabilities.
The creator, Reddit user AtmosphericBeats, shared images of their Mississippi map to the state’s official subreddit with screenshots showing off its scale and many details, which include borders for other states and a few outlying islands. According to them, the map is a 1:20 scale recreation created in the Java version and uses a good variety ofthe biomes native toMinecraft, such as plains, rivers, deserts, beaches and even taiga.
Minecraft Fan’s Life-Like Rendition of a US State is One of Many Real-World Maps
Users were impressed by the creation, commenting anecdotes about the state and showering praise on the user for their attention to detail, as many of them were residents of Mississippi themselves. Fortunately, the user shared a link to the map online so other players, especially those who live in Mississippi, can join and explore the virtual recreation of the U.S. state or build their hometowns.
The user did not simply make the map from memory, however, as they reportedly used external software they developed to pull map data from other sources and generate aMinecraftworld with realistic features based on information about Mississippi and its geography. This is far from the first time someone has created a lifelike map of a real-world location in the game, though, asanotherMinecraftplayer also attempted to recreate the entire Earth and its continents.
The creator of the Mississippi map has a series of other maps online based on real-world locations, all of which are available on Planet Minecraft for players to download and explore, such as Hawaii, Florida, and even the entire United States. It is unclear currently what future plans they might have for more maps down the line, but in the meantime, there is still plenty to explore, such asan officialMinecraftmap from The Nature Conservancythat helps support an environmental cause.
