Summary
InMinecraft’s recent 1.21 update, otherwise known as Tricky Trials, several new items, mobs, structures, and weapons were introduced. From the titular trial chambers to the powerful mace, Tricky Trials offered players new and interesting ways to play in and explore theirMinecraftworlds. With the addition of the mace came new exclusive enchantments for the blunt weapon, including the rare breach enchantment which reduces hostile mobs’ armor effectiveness. Despite this enchantment’s rarity, very few mobs wear armor, but Mojang could address this flaw with a potential armor rework for mobs.
Minecraft’s Armored Mobs Explained
ForMinecraftplayers who exclusively play PVP modes or play solely in peaceful or creative mode, they might be surprised by the fact that some mobs can spawn or equip pieces of armor. Occasionally, zombies, zombie villagers, skeletons, husks, strays, and piglins will spawn wearing various sets of armor ranging from one piece such as a helmet, or an entireset of diamond armorin rare instances. These mobs’ armor may also be enchanted to provide a stronger defense and may wear the uncraftable chainmail armor as well. Despite these mobs wearing armor, it doesn’t guarantee they’ll drop their armor when slain and will only seldom drop armor, usually in a weakened state.
While those are the only mobs that can spawn with armor, otherMinecraftmobs can pick up and equip armorif they walk over a drop piece or are given a piece via a dispenser. These mobs include the drowned, zombified piglins, piglin brutes, and wither skeletons. These will often be uncommon sights unless players die with armor near these mobs or when mobs pick up the armor from nearby explosions that destroy chests. Some of these mobs, such as the zombified piglin and wither skeletons, can only pick up and equip armor in normal and hard difficulties.
Non-Hostile Mobs That Wear Armor in Minecraft
Not every mob inMinecraftthat wears armor is hostile. Once players tame a horse or a wolf, both species can be equipped with varying sets of armor. For the horse, players can equip it with sets of leather, gold, iron, and diamond armor. Most horse armor can only be found in chests throughout the world, save for leather horse armor which can be crafted or bought by villagers. Similarly, wolf armor can be crafted using armadillo scutesdropped or brushed by armadillos found in badlands and savanna biomes. Untamed or hostile wolves, along with donkeys, mules, skeleton horses, and zombie horses, cannot wear armor.
Skeletons and zombies will occasionally drop their chainmail armor when killed, making these mobs a renewable source of chainmail armor beyond acquiring the armor from chests or trading with villagers.
A Potential Minecraft Armor Rework
With armored hostile mobs rarely appearing inMinecraft, most players will probably avoid using the breach enchantment and instead use the more unique density and wind burst enchantments for the mace. To rectify this issue, Mojang could increase the percentage chance of armor spawning on hostile mobs. They could additionally create armor for other hostile mobs such as hoglins, spiders, spider jockeys, and wither skeletons. Due to their small size, spiders could be restricted tospawn with chainmail or leather armor. Hoglins could spawn with gold armor similar to horse armor, while wither skeletons could spawn with gold and possibly netherite armor to make them more of a challenge to defeat.
Mojang could additionally allow illagers to spawn with various types of armor. Illagers already utilize a large variety of weapons, so having them wear some leather or chainmail armor could make them even more dangerous to another, giving the breach enchantment an increased purpose. Mojang could have illagers spawn with some tamed armored wolves and ravagers as well to make illager raids and outposts more difficult to defeat and conquer. If armor additions such as these were to be added toMinecraft, the breach enchantment for the macecould become one of the more useful and desired enchantments in the game.
