Player Mistakes
Back to All Characters
Mualani is an exciting new Hydro DPS unit introduced in the Natlan region withGenshin Impact’s 5.0 update, as players delve into exploring this new region with its unique new characters and the storyline. Being one of the first characters to be introduced from this region, Mualani’s playstyle in particular might look quite confusing to some, eventhough once players understand the gist of it, it is relatively straightforward.
AsGenshin Impactplayers dive into her kit, it’s important to understand that Natlan brings new mechanics that haven’t been seen before, making it easy to make mistakes when first using her. Mualani’s playstyle revolves around managing these new mechanics, and without a proper grasp of them, players might find themselves struggling to unlock her full potential.
5Not Paying Attention to Nightsoul Blessing
In Genshin Impact, characters often rely on various resources to boost their utility or DPS, such as Stamina, HP, or unique mechanics like the Bond of Life. With the introduction of the Natlan region, new mechanics have emerged that demand careful management—specifically Nightsoul points and Phlogiston Mechanics. These systems are integral to how Natlan characters operate, adding a layer of complexity to their gameplay.
For Mualani, a new Hydro DPS character, managing Nightsoul points is crucial for maximizing her damage output. She primarily gains these points through her Elemental Skill, which allows her to enter the Nightsoul Blessing state. In this state, Mualani’s basic attacks are transformed into powerful “Sharky Bites,” significantly boosting her damage. Therefore, players must focus on maintaining a steady supply of Nightsoul points to keep Mualani in this enhanced state and fully unleash her potential in combat. Within Natlan, she can also utilize Phlogiston points once Nightsoul Points are depleted to remain in this state. This can become especially handy when exploring the new region.
4Upgrading Her Basic Attack Talent
Mualani’s rotation revolves around her using Basic Attacks during the Nightsoul Blessing state, where her attacks are converted into powerful “Sharky’s Surging Bites” under her Elemental Skill. This transformation uses different, stronger multipliers compared to her standard Basic Attacks talent modifier, making the Elemental Skill the core of her damage output.
Given that Natlan is a new region, resources for Mualani will be scarce at first, with players unable to pre-farm the necessary materials. To maximize her effectiveness early on, it’s advisable to prioritize upgrading her Elemental Skill over her other abilities. Her Elemental Burst should come next in terms of leveling priority, as it also contributes to her overall DPS. Players should consider leaving her Basic Attack talent for last, especially if they’re low on resources or struggling with resin management. This strategy ensures that Mualani can deliver optimal damage with the limited resources available at the start of the Natlan expansion.
3Not Leveraging Vaporize Reaction
Mualani’sDPS is impressively comparable to Neuvillette’s, another top-tier Hydro DPS character inGenshin Impact. However, Mualani has the advantage of better synergy with Vaporize reactions due to her optimal attack speed. Unlike Neuvillette, who struggles with Vaporize because of his fast Hydro application, Mualani can effectively trigger Vaporize reactions withconsistent Pyro appliers like Xiangling, enhancing her damage output significantly.
Moreover, Mualani canutilize Burning-Vape reactionswhen paired with Dendro characters like Emilie, showcasing her versatility in team compositions. This flexibility allows her to be paired with a broader range of characters, unlike some DPS units that require specific setups to maximize their potential. While Mualani can also function well in a mono-Hydro team, achieving a similar damage ceiling will require more significant investment in her team members. This typically involves using premium characters like Furina or Kazuha to fully capitalize on her potential.
2Not Picking up Puffer
One of Mualani’s passives, Heat-Resistant Freshwater Puffer, is crucial for maximizing her DPS output. This passive allows Mualani to generate Puffers whenever an opponent is hit by her Sharky’s Surging Bite. Players should make it a priority to pick up these Puffers—up to two per Nightsoul Blessing state—as they replenish her Nightsoul points, effectively extending the duration of her empowered state and maintaining her high damage output.
This mechanic becomes even more critical if players opt to invest in Mualani’s constellations. At C2, picking up Puffers not only helps stack Wavebreaker’s Wave Momentum more quickly but also generates additional Nightsoul points. This further extends the duration of her Nightsoul Blessing state, allowing Mualani to sustain her peak damage for longer periods, making proper management of Puffers essential for those aiming to maximize her potential.
1Not Focusing on Mualani’s Artifacts the Right Way
Investing heavily in artifacts and weapons is crucial for maximizing the damage output of any character, especially DPS-oriented ones like Mualani. It’s highly recommended that players start farming the new artifact domain in Natlan as soon as possible. This domain dropsObsidian Codexset, which is Mualani’sbest-in-slot artifact set. This set is designed specifically for Natlan characters, and only they can fully leverage its benefits. Additionally, the other set dropped by this domain is also powerful, especially for sub-DPS or support units from Natlan, making the domain a valuable investment for resin.
While farming for high-stat artifacts can take time, the investment is well worth it. Players should prioritize pieces that offerCrit DMG,HP%, andElemental Masteryas primary sub-stats. Crit Rate can be less of a priority due to the substantial 40% boost provided by the Obsidian Codex set, allowing for more leniency in artifact sub-stats. This allows players to focus more on Crit DMG when optimizing her stats, making it easier to achieve high damage numbers. For players seeking a substitute while farming the ideal stats,Heart of Depthremains a viable option for Mualani, although it doesn’t perform as well as the Obsidian Codex set. Still, it can serve as a temporary solution until players can fully equip Mualani with her optimal artifacts.
