Summary
First announced back in December 2021, there’s been no official word on Monolith’sWonder Womangame in almost three years. While a lengthy period of silence following an initial announcement is nothing too unusual in the world of video games, especially for a big-budget AAA project likeWonder Woman, some fans can’t help but feel a little worried about the upcoming DC game.
It’s been a rough couple of years for DC fans. In the realm of movies,DC’s Snyderverseand all its various spin-offs and sequels mostly failed to live up to expectations, and DC’s video game output has met a similar fate, withGotham Knightsbeing a bit of a critical disappointment, and this year’sSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguecausing no shortage of controversies both before and after its launch. All of DC’s hopes are now on Monolith’s Wonder Woman game, and while the studio is probably doing its best to just keep its head down and focus on producing the high-quality experience that fans want, a small sign of good faith would likely go a long way.
No News Isn’t Necessarily Good News for Wonder Woman
DC Fans Need Reassurance Wonder Woman Is in a Good Place
DC’s most recent video game ventures haven’t exactly gone to plan. Long before its launch, many fans vocalized their fears thatSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewas leaning too heavily into its live-service elements, and that it would lead to an experience that fans just didn’t want from Rocksteady Studios, a developer primarily known for itssingle-playerBatman: Arkhamseries. Upon launch,Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewas met with a rather scathing reception from most critics and fans, with the game’s live-service elements resulting in a lackluster story mode and repetitive open-world.
According to a recent Bloomberg report by Jason Schreier,Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewas plagued by a bevy of behind-the-scenes issues during development. According to the report, these issues ranged from short-term fixes that ended up breaking other elements of the game later down the line, to a culture of “toxic positivity,” whereRocksteady employeesapparently felt as though they couldn’t criticize any aspect of the game or other peoples' work during the development process.
Right now, with no official word from the studio since its announcement in 2021, fans are worriedMonolith’s Wonder Woman gamecould be facing similar development issues. As stated earlier, it’s likely that Monolith is remaining silent so that it can focus on Wonder Woman’s development, but it would be nice if Monolith could break its silence just a little to reassure fans that the game’s development is at least progressing with no major issues, though of course, they don’t owe fans anything.
Some story details and concept art for Monolith’s Wonder Woman have apparently leaked recently, but that’s still no official word from the developer on the game’s progress.
DC Fans Need to See What Type of Game Wonder Woman Is
Another big worry that fans have is that Monolith’s Wonder Woman will have some form of live-service component. Back in November of last year, a job listing for Monolith seemingly hinted thatWonder Woman could have live-service elements. Thankfully, Warner Bros. got ahead of the speculation and confirmed that Wonder Woman will be a strictly single-player game, though many fans still want to see some official confirmation from Monolith itself before they can properly relax.
