TheSOS Flare inMonster Hunter Worldallowed players to essentially put out a call for help, enabling other players to jump into their game to lend a hand. For those having a tough time or just wanting to hunt with others, the SOS Flare quickly became a popular mechanic, and after getting sidelined for a more traditional co-op lobby system experience inMonster Hunter Rise, Capcom has officially confirmed the flare’s return. However, while the main functionality of calling for help remains intact, Capcom is enhancing the flare with additional features to let players really customize their experience.

How the SOS Flare is Changing in Monster Hunter Rise

As the official Monster Hunter Twitter account specified, players can now customize the SOS Flare to request help from players or be reinforced by “support hunters”, which are essentially NPC characters similar to theNPC Mercenary companions revealed forDiablo 4. Players can also define a maximum number of hunters that can join and whether NPC characters can drop in if no live players have joined after a set amount of time.

The SOS Flare isn’t the only big change coming to familiar features within this latest entry in the long-running franchise. In fact, Capcom also revealed thatMonster Hunter Wildswill feature armor that can be warn by both female and male characters. For the first time in the 20-year history of the franchise, Capcom is removing the gender-locked armor sets, allowing players to fully customize the look of their hunter with any piece of armor they want. In previous entries, armor and gear had specific appearances for male or female characters, which had long been criticized by many in the community.
