Summary
The upcomingMortal Kombat 1Khaos ReignsDLC may not feature iconic actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan the Barbarian, the breakthrough movie role that rocketed him to stardom. Ed Boon,Mortal Kombat 1game director and creator of the franchise, seems to be holding out hope that Schwarzenegger will join the project, but he’s still uncertain whether it will happen.
Schwarzenegger had a handful of television and film appearances during the 1970s, but it was his role as the title character in 1982’sConan the Barbarianand its 1984 sequel,Conan the Destroyer, that kicked his on-screen acting career into full gear, alongside his role inThe Terminator, which also released in 1984. At 77 years old, the actor is still active in his career, with multiple upcoming projects lined up, including another run at his barbarian character inThe Legend of Conan.
But he may not be reprising that role in theupcomingMortal Kombat 1DLC. In aninterview with Comic Book, Boone was asked whether Schwarzenegger would be voicing Conan in the game, responding, “I don’t know yet.” Boone stated that whoever ends up playing Conan in the game will have to record several lines, and there are multiple factors that can determine an actor’s availability for a gig. Still, it seems as though Schwarzenegger is a prime candidate for the role if he’s willing and able to take it on, and Boone said he is keeping his “fingers crossed” that Schwarzenegger will step into the role.
Arnold Schwarzenegger May Not Play Conan in Mortal Kombat 1
Conan isn’t the only character coming to the game in the upcoming DLC. Old series favorites Noob Saibot, Sektor, and Cyrax will be rejoining the other Kombatants already on themassive roster ofMortal Kombat 1, and along with Conan, they’ll be joined by guest stars Ghost Face from theScreamfranchise and the T-1000 from theTerminatorfranchise. Boone confirmed that Schwarzenegger’s former co-star Robert Patrick will be reprising his role as the T-1000. As for Ghostface, he said the game will be using the original audio fromScream, though it’s unclear whether that means clips of the voice of Matthew Lillard, Roger Jackson, or an uncredited actor.
If Schwarzenegger doesn’t join the cast, it wouldn’t be the first time that a movie role he made famous fell to someone else in aMortal Kombatgame’s cast. 2019’sMortal Kombat 11featured The Terminator, but instead ofultimate action hero Schwarzenegger, he was instead played by Chris Cox, who’s known for his voice work inBatman: Arkham OriginsandJak 3. As of now, Cox looks like he may be filling in for Schwarzenegger again, as IMDB lists him as the voice of Conan inMortal Kombat 1.
