Monoma Neito is one of the more eccentric characters inMy Hero Academia. With an inferiority complex due to his lackluster Copy Quirk, Monoma always saw himself as a side character. However, Monoma has always shown talent and intellect when needed, and he can strategize quickly and make the best of his Quirk.
Though Monoma feels his Quirk might not be enough to help him become a Hero, he is proven wrong and given a reason to believe in himself. In the Final War ofMHA, Monoma is given a task only he can complete, so find out how Monoma becomes essential to this role.
Monoma Neito’s sarcastic personality
Neito can often be seen as deranged; however, he is kind at heart
When first introduced to Monoma Neito in Season 2 of My Hero Academia, Monoma has shown to possess impressive intellect and strategy. Monoma Neito is a student at UA High School and is situated in Class 1-B. There are two Hero class departments in UA, and Class 1-A is considered to have the strongest students. Monoma has always had an innate inferiority complex, which can be seen in how he provokes Class 1-A.
However, Monoma has always felt inferiorbecause of his Copy Quirk. This is likely due to his Quirk not being seen as heroic or strong like Bakugo Katsuki’s Explosion Quirk. As a result of this, Monoma often acts out, provoking Class 1-A and taunting them. However, this is primarily due to the USJ Incident in which Class 1-A wasattacked by Shigarakiin Season 1. Although Class 1-A and B are both from the Hero Department, only Class 1-A has been getting recognition from the public. This has caused Monoma to put down Class 1-A, as Class 1-B’s efforts are not being seen.
Although Monoma doesn’t particularly like Class 1-A, he begrudgingly does recognize their efforts and hard work. However, when he gets a chance to boast about Class 1-B, he’ll do so provokingly in front of the other Hero class. Unfortunately for Monoma, this does irritate his own classmates, and once his tirade is done, he’ll often be knocked out by Itsuka Kendo and dragged away.
However, although Monoma can be cynical to Class 1-A, often mocking them if they fail at something or if an incident has occurred because of them, he also has a kind side to him. While it’s not seen very often, Monoma cares for others and can recognize his weaknesses. This is seen when Aizawa Shota sought Monoma’s assistance tohelp Eri master her Quirk. Unfortunately, due to the nature of her Quirk, Monoma could not Copy it; however, although Eri remains close to Class 1-A, Monoma still treats her well.
The Difference Between Inferior and Strong Quirks
Strong Quirks will always be seen as superior
Throughout the series, there has always been an emphasis on weak and strong Quirks. Those with strong Quirks are immediately expected to become heroes, and those with weak Quirks are often pushed to the side or seen as useless. Monoma has always dreamed of becoming a Hero; however, his Quirk forces him to rely on those around him, pushing him to strategize and improve his improvisation ability. However, due to his inferiority complex, he has always searched for ways to win safely without necessarily aiming for the top.
Due to his Copy Quirk, Monoma has always seen himself to be lacking something. This is also why he quickly befriended Hitoshi Shinso. Shinso can enter the Hero Department; however, due to the nature of the preliminary exam, it would be hard for him to use his Quirk. Monoma saw thepotential of Shinso’s Quirkand thought they were like-minded. Their Quirks are weaker than power Quirks; however, they could be formidable foes if used correctly.
Monoma Is Given a Crucial Role in the Final War
Without Monoma, the start of the War would not have looked the same
Although Monoma has an inferiority complex about his Quirk and is very much aware of its weaknesses, his Quirk, which can Copy just about anything, will help himplay an essential role in the Final War.Like many other students, Monoma has been training hard to increase his abilities with his Copy Quirk. Previously, Monoma could only copy one Quirk at a time; however, at the time of the Final War, Monoma could copy multiple Quirks with a longer time limit.
While Monoma didn’t think too highly of himself, the surrounding others saw the potential in his Quirk for the Final War. In Chapter 344, Monoma opens up about being seen as a “side character,” but Vlad King reassures Monoma that he has been the protagonist the entire time. At this point, Monoma’s character has changed slightly, and it’s easier to understand why he has his inferiority complex. However, with the formal request from Aizawa and Vlad King, Monoma was tasked with usingKurogiri’s Warp Quirktoseparate the Villainsand assist Aizawa in using his Erasure Quirk during the Final War.
Previously, Aizawa had lost the use of his right eye, making Erasure weaker. However, with Monoma’s assistance, actively touching Aizawa to use the Quirk would give the Heroes a better chance at winning the War against Shigaraki. Monoma is also susceptible to the same weakness as Aizawa when using Erasure; as a result, Manual used his Water Quirk to moisturize his eyes.
While Monomadislikes Bakugo Katsuki, he witnesses All For One destroy Bakugo’s heart during the Final War. During this time, Monoma’s empathy and kindness can be seen, showcasing a change of character and development on his part. Overall, Monoma’s role in the Final War was essential; it allowed the Heroes to implement countless countermeasures against All For One and stopped his Quirks until he was knocked out by the Twice’s. As a reward for his achievements, Monoma was given a statue in honor of what he achieved during the War, although his deranged personality still remains.
