For many,Stranger Thingsis their favoriteNetflixoriginal, and it’s been tough to wait forStranger Thingsseason 5. Whilethe new season should echo season 4’s dark tone, every character needs a powerful, strong, and compelling storyline since it’s the last opportunity fans have to see them. There’s one character who deserves a particularly memorable send-off.
Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin) has always been a loyal member of his friend group, but the main plot hasn’t always focused on him. AlthoughStranger Thingsjuggles many characters and balances a lot of plot points, this should change in the final episodes. While he got more attention inStranger Thingsseason 4,Stranger Things season 5needs to give Lucas a meaningful plotline.
What Could Happen To Lucas In Stranger Things Season 5?
Lucas Sinclair could have a compelling dynamic with any character inStranger Thingsseason 5, butit would be particularly meaningful to watch Lucas and Erica Sinclair (Priah Ferguson) take on Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and any other creatures. Since at this point, it seems like any character could have an intense and action-packed scene with Vecna, it would be particularly gripping to see Lucas and his younger sister. Althoughfans can only guess at Vecna’s next steps, he likely has plans for everyone.
It would also be fun tosee Lucas go on a journey of his own and travel somewhere else.IfStranger Thingsseason 5 has a post-apocalyptic plot, this could allow Lucas to have a great storyline. Maybe he wants to find other people and supplies and bonds with a new character along the way. The previous seasons have explored Hawkins and the Upside Down, and it was cool to see the characters in California inStranger Thingsseason 4. Expanding the setting once again would be fun to watch and would also help deepen Lucas’s character development.
While Lucas will always be part of his friend group,Lucas needs to separate himself from The Party for at least one episode inStranger Thingsseason 5so he can learn more about himself. This will let him say farewell to Hawkins, Indiana and look to the future. Besides going on a trip of his own, he could also investigate a lead into Vecna that he doesn’t tell the others about, at least not for a little while. While many fans want Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) and Lucas to get back together, it would be better if that happened in theStranger Thingsseason 5 finaleif Max hopefully lives. This will allow the show to focus on Lucas without making the entire season about his romantic relationship. That should be just one part of his character arc.
In 2019, Caleb McLaughlin was interviewed byEntertainment Weeklyand talked about Lucas’s character arc. He talked about Lucas being more grown up, which fans will see even more of with thetime jump inStranger Thingsseason 5. McLaughlin said:
“He’s changed a lot, for sure. I feel like Lucas has become more mature. He faces his problems differently. He faces battles differently. He deals with them on a mature, more poised level, and before, he was really intense about things, and he felt that he needed to rely on other people, or nothing would go wrong.”
What Happened To Lucas In Stranger Things Seasons 1-4?
FromStranger Thingsseason 1 throughStranger Thingsseason 3,Lucas Sinclair’sStranger Thingsstorylines are focused on his place in the friend group. He’s a loyal friend to the others and embraces the fight against the many creatures of the Upside Down. He also has some funny scenes with his smart younger sister Erica Sinclair, and there will hopefully be more of those inStranger Thingsseason 5.
Lucas is then given his own storyline whenLucas and Max Mayfield begin dating inStranger Thingsseason 2. Sadly,Lucas and Max split up before season 4 begins, which adds more emotion to the fourth season, especially after Max is attacked by Vecna.
But while Lucas is an important part of the Netflix series, he’s given a more weighty plotline inStranger Thingsseason 4 that is tough to watch yet relatable .Lucas is now a basketball player at Hawkins High who wants to be popular like Jason Carver (Mason Dye). He doesn’t think that he should be part of his friend group anymore, and the rest of The Party is hurt by his actions. Of course, since this isStranger Things, they work together against Vecna and everything is okay in the end… until theStranger Thingsseason 4 finale, which sets up what will likely be a shocking final season.
