Summary

Netflixhas the right TV show for anyone’s mood, from the charming sci-fi story at the heart ofStranger’s Thingsto the dark and engagingWednesday. When the TV series premiered in fall 2022, fans of the Addams Family were interested in seeing another version of Wednesday Addams. Thanks to Jenna Ortega’s background in horror movies and her ability to portray Wednesday as both cynical and engaging, it’s fair to say the show was a hit from the get-go.

Wednesdayseason 2 will feel similar to the first season in a few ways since Wednesday is still a precocious and clever boarding school student with a knack for solving mysteries that others can’t quite figure out. But whilethe show should find inspiration inHarry Potter,Wednesdayseason 2 should also include a smart element from the first season that fans would love to see again.

What Element Does Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2 Need?

Wednesdayseason 1 featured Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday Addams in the ’90s movies, butWednesdayseason 2 doesn’t have any legacy actors as part of the cast. The new season should include a fan-favorite actor who starred inThe Addams Family,Addams Family Values, orAddams Family Reunion. It would be fun to seeAngelica Huston and Carole Kane come back in some way.

While Huston and Kane couldn’t play their original characters since Catherine Zeta-Jones and Joanna Lumley will play Morticia and Grandmama inWednesdayseason 2,the actors could play brand new characters.Christina Ricci played Marilyn Thornhill/Laurel Gates in the first season, and it was fun to see such an iconic actor play a mysterious teacher with tricks and secrets up her sleeve. Huston and Kane could play any number of characters, from Nevermore Academy staff members to the parents or relatives of Wednesday’s classmates. SinceWednesdayseason 1 juggled a lot of different characters, it would be possible for the second season to add one or two more.

Whilefans want some characters to return, it would also be cool to see some Addams Family actors playing fresh characters. This would appease viewers who didn’t feel thatWednesdayseason 1 included enough Addams Family nostalgia. It could also draw in new viewers to the series, which is always a good thing.

Although fans can only speculate about legacy actors from the Addams Family franchise appearing inWednesday, they have said positive things about their famous characters in the past. In 2018, Huston toldThe Guardianthat she loved playing Morticia Addams. She explained:

“I didn’t feel like I needed to make another family-friendly film. But I’ve always had a bit of a dark side when it comes to movie choices – I make my decisions individually rather than because I think that’s the way my career should be going.”

Wednesdayfans think that appearances from past franchise actors are a great idea. Even if these characters appeared only briefly, they could have their own plotlinesand add something fun to the mix.Redditor@drflanigan wrote:

“I hope every season brings back cameo appearances from previous Addams family actors. I want Christopher Lloyd back, or Raul Julia, or imagine Tim Curry as the new headmaster, or Carel Struycken as a new teacher/caretaker. I loved Christina Ricci in this and I hope they turn this into a seasonal gimmick.”

How Did Wednesday Season 1 Use This Particular Element?

Christina Ricci’sWednesdaycharacter Marilyn Thornhill is a Nevermore Academy teacher who is actually an evil villain named Laurel Gates.Laurel is carrying on her relative Joseph Crackstone’s legacy of targeting outcasts, and this is a thrilling, big reveal at the end of the first season. While Thornhill/Gates seems to be an innocent Normie teacher who wants the best for herstudents at Nevermore Academy, she is hiding her violent and dark nature. Ricci’s character is clever and interesting, but she is of course no match for Wednesday, who sees right through her. Watching the two battle each other is one of the highlights of the show so far. While the first season has a few twists, Thornhill’s true identity is one of the best ones.

In 2022, Ricci praised Jenna Ortega in an interview withElleand said that people shouldn’t compare the two stars or say whose portrayal was more exciting. Ricci said:

“I loved being Wednesday. I’m very proud of that role. I also think Jenna Ortega is amazing. She is so brave, so cool, and really doing the part justice. Wednesday is her part now…[and] those two things can be true at the same time!”
