However, with the new legendary crafting system coming to the game soon, this grind will become a lot less intimidating, as players will have yet another tool to help combat the often frustrating odds of RNG.

Why Fallout 76’s New Legendary Mod Crafting System Will Be a Game-Changer

The latestPTS forFallout 76became available on June 19, 2025, giving players a chance to experience and provide feedback on some of the changes coming to the game in future updates. One of the main features showcased in this PTS is the new legendary crafting system coming toFallout 76.

The Public Test Server is available free for all players who ownFallout 76on Steam.

Currently, crafting legendary gear inFallout 76requires players to roll every legendary effect on the item at the same time. With items having three different slots for legendary effects and multiple possibilities for each slot, there is a lot of RNG involved in getting all three legendary effects to turn out to be a god-roll. The biggest criticism of this current system is that changing an item’s legendary effects is all-or-nothing since individual legendary effects can’t be preserved. However, this is all going to change with the new legendary crafting system.

Fallout 76’s New Crafting System Will Make Obtaining Legendary God-Rolls Easier than Ever Before

With the new legendary crafting system, players will be able to scrap their legendary gear to earn legendary particles and a chance to obtain craftable mod recipes for the legendary effects of the gear that was scraped. Players can then craft legendary mods they have the recipe for with legendary particles, and apply these to gear without changing any of its other legendary effects. Overall, this will give players a tool to combat the sometimes harsh RNG involved in obtaininglegendary god-rolls inFallout 76.

Fallout 76’s New Legendary Crafting System Will Give Players a Use for their Excess Legendaries

After reaching the daily legendary scrip limit, most players would either sell their leftover legendaries in their CAMP vending machine for dirt cheap, or dead drop the items in one of thedonation boxes inFallout 76. With this new legendary crafting system though, players will need to consider whether it’s more worthwhile to exchange their legendaries for legendary scrip or to scrap them for legendary particles and the chance to earn a legendary mod recipe.

Fallout 76’s New Legendary Crafting System Will Forever Change the Trading Economy

Already, some players are concerned about the impact this will have on thetrading economy inFallout 76, specifically, whether or not this will devalue the price of legendary god-rolls. Allegedly, this won’t be the case, as Bethesda has stated that items that have legendary mods applied to them will become character-bound and no longer tradeable. However, legendary mods themselves being tradeable is expected to have a huge market value.

It’s worth noting that this new legendary crafting system is subject to change. Bethesda has also said that this feature likely won’t be included in the upcoming Milepost Zero update forFallout 76, as it may need more time and feedback before it’s ready. Regardless though, this feature is still expected to be a game-changer for the endgame grind inFallout 76for multiple reasons.
