While entries in the series are often regarded as some of thebest NBA games ever made, the franchise has lain dormant for a long time, with the last mainline title,NBA Street Homecourt, being released all the way back in 2007. However, a game many have described as a spiritual successor to the series has finally been announced, and it is set to come out for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S systems in 2025.
The Run: Got Nextis an upcoming 3v3 basketball game with roguelike elements that promises to offer fast-paced but easy-to-pick-up gameplay. This will be the debut title of Play by Play Studios, a developer comprised of several video game industry veterans like CEO and founder Scott Probst, the former general manager of the now-defunct Visceral Games. Other members include fellow EA alumnus Michael Young, who actually worked on theNBA Streetgames, and Terry Smith, the art director for 2005’scritically acclaimedGod of War.
The Run: Got Next Release Date
Play by Play Studios claims thatThe Run: Got Nextwill feature some of the most legendary courts in the world, and the announcement trailer for the game was set in the Philippines, a country known for its love for basketball. Additionally, the title will let players build up squads from an evolving roster of characters, each of whom will come with their own strengths and playstyles. Staples of theclassicNBA Streetgameslike signature dunks will also be inThe Run: Got Next, but Play by Play Studios claims it will bring its own flavor of style and substance to the game while remaining grounded in streetball.
Play by Play Studios was founded in 2021, but it only went public alongside the official reveal ofThe Run: Got Next. In a statement, the studio said that it wants to createfun sports gameswith hand-crafted characters and worlds that bring people together.
