Summary

Hangar 13’s newly unveiledMafia: The Old Countrywon’t have Italian language audio when it releases in 2025.Mafia: The Old Countrywas Geoff Keighley’s “one more thing” at Gamescom Opening Night Live, a show that also hosted the reveal ofBorderlands 4, Tarsier Studios’Reanimal,Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s December 9 release date, and much more.

Ever since theMafiatrilogy had its update in 2020, which included a full-onremake of the firstMafiagame, fans of the organized crime action series have been clamoring for the fourth mainline entry. Set on the tip of Italy’s boot, the island of Sicily, in the early 1900s,Mafia: The Old Countrywill seek to tell the story of the origins of the Italian mob. There have been many mentions of characters' earlier lives back in Italy throughout the series. As a prequel, the possibility of seeing familiar faces during earlier stages of their lives is surely exciting for many fans.

According toMafia: The Old Country’s Steam page, the game will unfortunatelynot feature Italian audio. Supported languages instead include English, French, Russian, German, Spanish, and Czech. Thankfully, players will have the option to use Italian subtitles and UI, but language purists who would like to experience the fourth entry in theesteemedMafiafranchisein Italian won’t be given the option to.

Mafia: The Old Country Won’t Support Italian Audio

It’s surely disappointing forMafiafans that Italian language support has been dropped right when the franchise is about to land in Italy, especially when considering all theprevious US-setMafiagamessupported Italian audio. There’s a possibility thatMafia: The Old Country’s Steam page could be updated with more information ahead of its 2025 release, filling out that extra check mark in the Italian audio box. It may also be the case that Italian audio could be added to the game post-launch. This puzzling omission of the Italian language wouldn’t have been as big a deal had the game been another story set in America; the game being set in early-1900s Italy surely makes it a harder pill to swallow.

Mafia: The Old Country’s Steam page having as much information as it does following its reveal just yesterday makes it seem like the game is coming sooner rather than later. The teaser trailer hinted that more info will be shared in December, most likely at The Game Awards, which is set for December 12. There,Mafiafans may be able to expectThe Old Country’s 2025 release window to be narrowed down to a specific date.
