Summary

[REDACTED]is an upcoming roguelike that is going to be set in the same universe asThe Callisto Protocol. Developed by Striking Distance Studios,[REDACTED]takes the location of Black Iron Prison fromThe Callisto Protocoland puts players in the role of a simple prison guard who is desperate to escape the outbreak.

The Callisto Protocolwas released in late 2022, and upon launch received widespread criticism for its short runtime, lack of replayability, and poor quality-of-life features. A lot of these issues upon launch were caused byThe Callisto Protocolbeing forced to ship earlier than expected. Despite the negative reception, Striking Distance Studios has been hard at work on the game since its launch to bring it in line with the vision it originally intended. Now, the game is often looked at more favorably, with new game modes and a DLC story available to augment the experience in a way that just wasn’t possible at launch.

Striking Distance Studios and Krafton have released an official announcement trailer for [REDACTED], the top-down roguelike shooter set within Black Iron Prison.[REDACTED]was revealed earlier this year with a short gameplay trailerunder the name of Project Birdseye, and with this announcement trailer fans have an official name for the title, as well as more details regarding how the game will play out. Players take the role of a security guard, desperate to escape Black Iron Prison amid the outbreak of infected inmates. With only one escape pod left, players will have to contend with the living as well as the infected to escape. Should the player die on their run, another security guard will attempt to escape in their place, and players will have the chance to reclaim some of the earnings from their previous run by locating their body and defeating the recently infected security guard in battle. The corpse will have access to the same weapons, equipment, and upgrades that it had in life, so reclaiming any lost possessions may not be easily done.

[REDACTED] is a Cartoonish Roguelike Set in the Callisto Protocol Universe

The announcement of[REDACTED]comes with little more than the information presented in the trailer, but fans have been promised that there will be “more to discuss” in the future.Striking Distance Studios has recently been hiring for work on a new titlethat will run on Unreal Engine 5, and fans have taken the assumption that[REDACTED]is not this aforementioned title, meaning that there is still more to come from Striking Distance Games. With the recent success thatThe Callisto Protocolhas received, many fans are hoping that there is still another mainline game within that universe on the way.

As for[REDACTED], it looks to stray away quite heavily from the survival horror aspect ofThe Callisto Protocoland lean into a more action-packed and combat-driven adventure. Many fans are already drawing parallels toHades, with many comparing it to"Hadesin space." Gamers will hopefully be able to learn more about[REDACTED]before its launch on October 31.
