Summary
OneNo Man’s Skyplayer has come up with the idea of a new Living Freighter modeled after the game’s Living Ships and Frigates. With the two other spacecraft types already having a Living version, creating a Living Freighter is a simple, yet creative, way to add new content toNo Man’s Sky.
No Man’s Sky’s Living shipsare grown through the Starbirth questline. Once a player completes the quest, they can purchase future Living Ships with Nanites. They can’t be acquired randomly while exploring as NPC’s can’t pilot them. Living Ships were first added to the game in 2020, with Space Whales, also known as Organic Frigates, being added in the Endurance patch.
Reddit user Austryak created a thread on theNo Man’s Skysubreddit with their idea of a Living Freighter. Using an image of a giant space whale with purple coloring and large tusks to represent a possible freighter design, they stated one should be added to the game. Other players clamored to add in their support, especially if it had a Lovecraftian quest series associated with obtaining it. This would expand upon thehorror elements currently inNo Man’s Sky.
Players Devise New Freighter in No Man’s Sky
Looking at the release dates of previous living vessels, there was a two-year gap between theintroduction of Living Ships toNo Man’s Skyand Organic Frigates. Frigates were added to the game in the Endurance patch in July 2022. With the features of Worlds Part 2 waiting to be revealed, one of them could end up being a Living Freighter. Worlds Part 1 has already addressed revamps to planets, increased the variety of creatures and plants that can spawn, and overhauled graphics. If Part 2 deals with other features of the game, Freighters are likely to be revised.
While many posters on the thread were excited about the idea of a Living Freighter, some pointed out the logistics of implementing it.No Man’s Skyfreightershave multiple upgrade and expansion options which would require completely new assets for a living structure. A large update could add this, but the dev team at Hello Games would have to invest considerable time to properly execute the feature.
Another commenter came up with a compromise by suggesting wrecked freighters could be added to the game, which are half living vessel and half regular freighter. This would allow a new design to be included without having to completely create new rooms and add-ons. Whether Living Freighters become a reality inNo Man’s Skyremains to be seen.
