Though it was originally slated to come out in October 2022,No More Room in Hell 2’s early access releasewas delayed, with the studio announcing that it had developed a partnership with another studio that would grant the game more funding, and the team more resources. Five years later,State of Decay 2launched, and though it didn’t quite meet expectations, fans were still hopeful about the series' future. Just a month afterState of Decay 2’s launch, developer Undead Labs was acquired by Microsoft, and in 2020 a third installment in the zombie action survival series was announced.

However, a few years after its announcement, reports started surfacing that suggestedState of Decay 3’s developmentwas in trouble.
