Hogwarts Legacybrought players to the titular school of wizardry made famous by theHarry Potterfranchise. Fans of bothHarry Potterand RPGs flocked to the game at launch, making it the top-selling game of 2023. This success has primedHogwarts Legacyto get a sequel, which could expand upon its many features.
Although nothing has been officially announced yet, it would be surprising if there wasn’ta secondHogwarts Legacyplanned for the future. The game’s ability to put players in the shoes of their own custom wizard can be a fun adventure, and althoughHogwarts Legacysucceeds in many qualities that make RPGs feel immersive, there is still plenty of room for improvement. One of the biggest waysHogwarts Legacycan improve is with its spells, and Reparo, in particular, should get some extra attention.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Improving Reparo Could Be Great for Immersion
Reparo Hasn’t Reached Its Full Potential
There are tons of spells to learn inHogwarts Legacy, and one that can be useful is Reparo. Afterlearning the Reparo spell, players are given the ability to fix broken objects, which can really come in handy. However, the spell has its limits, which can prove to be frustrating and break immersion. For example, the spell doesn’t actually work on every broken item in the game. Only a broken object highlighted with a white outline can be pieced back together.
The limits put on the Reparo spell can take some players out of the experience, as it completely breaks the immersion ofHogwarts Legacy. It’s understandable that making every single broken object in the game fixable is probably no easy task for developers, but a potential sequel could be taken even further by at least expanding the scope of the spell to make it feel like nearly every object can be fixed.Hogwarts Legacymissed an opportunitywith Reparo, but a sequel could right this wrong.
Reparo is necessary for certain quests and can help with in-game exploration, but only within scripted moments. It would be more fun if players could use Reparo on anything that theoretically could be fixed if the situation was real. Despite its many great moments,Hogwarts Legacydropped the ballin several ways that a sequel can hopefully atone for, and Reparo is definitely on that list.
Despite the game receiving mixed reception from critics and players,Hogwarts Legacysold a jaw-dropping 22 million copies in 2023.
When it comes to sequels, the general instinct is to make everything bigger and better than the previous chapter. However,Hogwarts Legacymay not benefit from taking this route. Instead,Hogwarts Legacyhas the opportunity to refine and improvethe features that made the game such a success in the first place. From spells like Reparo to the Common Rooms, there were several aspects of the game that weren’t quite where they needed to be. Avalanche Software brought a fun RPG to life, but there is still more potential within the franchise to really make players feel like they are part of Hogwarts.
AlthoughHogwarts Legacymay have fumbled a few of the features promised within the game, there is still a chance to make up for these missteps. There are plenty of places whereHogwarts Legacyshines, like the game’s customization options, but a sequel can really turn up the dial on a lifelike wizarding school experience. In a year that was filled with major competition,Hogwarts Legacymanaged to stay on top, and it will be exciting to see how a sequel handles taking the franchise a step further.
