Donquixote Doflamingo has always been a pivotal character inOne Piece,especially in the Dressrosa Saga. Doflamingo was always going to have his own arc inOne Piece.Absolutely no fan could have denied that, and it certainly was not a surprise when, in the post timeskip, Doflamingo became a very powerful antagonist who stood in the path of Luffy. Of course, Doflamingo was Luffy’s first big test in the New World, and he forced Luffy to reveal all the trump cards that he had gained during the timeskip. Doflamingo gave Luffy quite a difficult fight at first. However, after he revealed the power of Gear 4, the battle became incredibly easy for him. Luffy was able to pummel Doflamingo and toss him all over the city.
Eventually, Luffy utilized the power of King Kong Gun to send him crashing downinto the underground of Dressrosa. Following his defeat, he was arrested. Doflamingo was then transported to the underwater prison, Impel Down. This prison was deemed impenetrable until recently, but, even though its defenses have been broken, it is safe enough to hold Doflamingo down for the time being. Luffy absolutely crushed Doflamingo and his dreams, and with that, the responsibility of taking care of this criminal passed over to Magellan.
Ever since then, Doflamingo has been in prison, and he continues to be there, only showing up in certain key moments, where Oda needs him to play key roles and add more depth to certain plot points. Regardless of which way fans look at it, Doflamingo’s story is not complete and he certainly hasa bigger role to play in the Final Saga.While many fans believe that Doflamingo’s part is done, they would be surprised to know that there is more to come from him and the key to all that is in the clues that Oda has left behind.

Doflamingo’s role in the Dressrosa arc was that of a main villain. Here, he stood in the path of Luffy and Law, and this was largely done for two main reasons. The first was that Oda wanted more lore surrounding the Celestial Dragon families, such as the Donquixote Family, and at the same time, the importance of the Ope Ope no Mi, the immortality surgery, as well as the body swap. All these things are vital in the Final Saga, and Oda will make use of Doflamingo later down the line as well to get further exposition to these plot points.

Eventually, Doflamingo will most likely want to attain his dream of usurping Imu, and to do this, he might even willingly aid the other Pirates, which would certainly be exciting.
