Much of the reason why One Piece Live Action was a major success was down to Oda himself. As always, fans know that Oda wants to be deeply involved in all his projects. This is especially true when it comes to the Live Action adaptation. Oda personally went through casting choices and picked the ones he thought represented his characters perfectly. He went through the scripts, and scrapped ideas he deemed unfit for the show. Oda has always been there, and One Piece Live Action season 1 was a major success partially because of him. It is his story after all, and his vision is being brought to life by all the team working on this Live Action adaptation.
That said, Oda himself has confirmed that One Piece Live Action needn’t exactly be like his manga. Oda told the fans previously to accept that this is an adaptation that is going to be somewhat different, even though it is goingto be telling Luffy’s story.Fans should accept it for what it is, and enjoy the story as it is. This essentially means that there will be different things within the story ofOne Piecein the Live Action form, and it appears things are going to continue down the same route in Season 2 as well.
Oda Confirms His Involvement in OPLA Season 2
Oda Has Confirmed That He Oversees Everything In OPLA
Out of absolutely nowhere, fans got a massive message from Oda in regards to One Piece Live Action season 2 on June 04, 2025. Fans were expecting casting news for One Piece Live Action season 2, and while they did get that, as well as an announcement on when the next casting reveals are going to be, they also got a major message from Oda, which confirms his involvement in Season 2, along with much else. Has what Oda had to say:
Yes, the live-action One Piece is currently in production, with filming well underway. The story will cover Loguetown, Reverse Mountain (Twin Cape), Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island! Think about it. Imagine how much it’ll cost! Lol. But whether it’s the script or the cast, I continue to insist on this or that, which makes Matt the Showrunner go “Aaarrgh!” and Netflix go “Noooo!” and Tomorrow Studios go “Whaaaat” as they all pull their hairs out. All that, even though we grew so close making season 1.
But it’s because we all share the same passion for this show! Just as with last season, they’ve gone out of their way to promise that they won’t put the show out until I’m satisfied. This isn’t in the contract, you know. It’s a verbal pledge. I hope you can appreciate how amazing and determined they are for keeping their word. And they’ve certainly proven their ability to bring this world to the screen. I just can’t wait to see it!

You may wonder, what was the inspiration behind that kingdom? How would it connect to the real world? Based on Oda’s message, it is clear that he has had some very strong opinions on the writing decisions made by the team ofOne Piece Live Actionseason 2. Oda’s have not necessarily sat right with Matt Owens, the showrunner, and his team of writers. Similarly, Tomorrow Studios have also had to deal with the fact that Oda wants things a certain way, and that is essentially good news.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Oda is on bad terms with them. It simply means that he wants his product to be treated as carefully as possible, and be aligned with the vision that he has for the One Piece world. Oda has ensured that he will oversee the developments of One Piece Live Action, and fans would have it no other way. At the end of the day, Matt Owens and all the others seem to have accepted all the criticisms and writing changes that Oda has wanted them to make and put out One Piece the way he wants.
Oda mentioned last year that nothing will be aired until Oda himself is satisfied with what is being written, and this year too, something similar is happening. Oda also clarified thatOPLAnot putting out anything until he is satisfied is not based on a contract. It is a verbal agreement, but one that they intend to honor, and they have, up until this point. This is incredibly exciting news for the fans, and once again, goes to show that everything that is coming up in One Piece Live Action season 2 is stuff that Oda himself has agreed upon as well, and even though it will be starkly different to the manga, these are changes thatOda thinks work for the Live Action adaptation.
