Summary
The Marines are the primary peacekeeping force inOne Piece. The organization’s job is to capture all manner of criminals and lock them away for the safety of ordinary people. Given that it is so massive, it is hardly surprising that there is a hierarchy within the organization.
Just below the Fleet Admiral are the three Admirals, who are dubbed the greatest force of the Marines. Each Admiral possesses extraordinary abilities, making them a force to be reckoned with. However, there are other fighters within the organization who are capable of taking down the biggest criminals.
8Koby
Position: Captain
Koby joined the Marines after Luffy rescued him from Alvida’s ship. Shortly after joining, Garp took him under his wing, which helped the young Marine to improve his abilities. Koby has continued to improve, and he has even reached the rank of a Marine Captain.
While he does not have a Devil Fruit, Koby does have goodcontrol over Armament andObservation Haki. As he is still very young, Koby will only get better, and he might end up becoming an Admiral someday.
7X-Drake
Position: Rear Admiral
For most of the story, fans were under the impression that X-Drake was a pirate from the Worst Generation. It wasn’t until the Wano Country arc that the truth about his plan came to light. X-Drake is the captain of SWORD, a special unit within the Marines that has certain privileges over the rest.
X-Drake possesses the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Allosaurus,an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit. It allows him to transform into a prehistoric beast and take down his enemies. He is able to use the full-beast and the hybrid forms without any problems. There is also the possibility that X-Drake might awaken his Devil Fruit in the future, and it would significantly increase his power level.
6Smoker
Position: Vice Admiral
Smoker is one of the most well-known characters inOne Piece. He made his debut in the Loguetown arc, where he nearly captured Luffy and ended his dream of becoming the King of the Pirates. Unfortunately for the Marine, Dragon appeared out of nowhere and saved his son. The regret of being unable to capture Luffy was so great that Smoker followed the pirate into the Grand Line.
Before the time-skip, Smoker came off as a strong individual, but things have gone downhill for him since. However, Smoker remains a talented fighter who has plenty of room to grow. Hopefully, he will be moreinvolved in the Final Sagaso that fans can see how strong he has become.
5Sentomaru
Sentomaru is the head of the scientific division of the Marines, and he is also Vegapunk’s bodyguard. While he may not look like it, Sentomaru is a capable fighter who can use advanced Armament Haki to defend himself and to attack others.
Sentomaru also carries a big ax, and a single well-placed hit from it can easily bring down a strong characters. Despite being a Marine, Sentomaru is fiercely loyal to Vegapunk, and he will even disobey orders if it is a question of the scientist’s safety.
4Momousagi
Momousagi is a Marine Vice Admiral who has only made a handful of appearances inOne Piece. She is on good terms with Tsuru, who treats her like a sister. Momousagi might not be as famous as some of the other Marines, but she is easily one of the strongest fighters within the organization.
Momousagi’s fighting skills impressed the higher-ups so much that she was in contention tobecome an Admiral. Ultimately, she was not selected for the role, but that doesn’t undermine her abilities.
3Chaton
Chaton’s name is rarely mentioned when it comes to debates about powerful Marines, but the reality is that he should be part of every discourse; after all, he was shortlisted to become an Admiral.
As a Vice Admiral, Chaton has authority over those who are at a lower rank than him. Chaton can also use at least two types of Haki, and it is safe to say that he can utilize them better than most Marines in the series.
2Tsuru
Tsuru joined the Marines at the same time as Garp and Sengoku, making her one of the veterans. After serving loyally for years, Tsuru became a Vice Admiral, but her role was far greater than that. When Sengoku was the Fleet Admiral, Tsuru was the staff officer, and she relayed orders to the other Marines.
Despite the limited screen time, there is enough information about Tsuru to help the audience understand her strengths. In her heyday, she was feared by pirates around the world. Even Doflamingo, a powerful criminal, decided to run away rather than face Tsuru. Tsuru’s main source of strength is the Woshu Woshu no Mi, which allows her to wash her opponents. The power enables her to remove some of the evil inside the criminals.
1Monkey D. Garp
Monkey D. Garp is arguably the strongest Marine in history. He joined the Marines when he was still very young, along with Sengoku and Tsuru. Garp’s strength was phenomenal, and he stole the spotlight in next to no time. Seeing his power, the higher-ups offered him the promotion to become an Admiral, which he rejected because he did not want to become apawn of the Celestial Dragons.
Garp is able to use all three types of Haki, making him one of the few characters able to do so. His physical strength is on a different level, and he can use it to break mountains with his fists. Another thing that separates Garp from the rest is that he is the only Marine to corner Gol D. Roger.
