In a pirate crew, the captain is the highest authority. Every decision that they make is final, and after that there are no more moot points. The reason why the captain is at the top of the chain is primarily because of their power.
Fortunately, this doesn’t apply to every case, as inOne Piecethere are multiple pirates who have not only accumulated more reputation than their captains, but they are stronger as well. Despite not being captains, these characters are not to be trifled with, as they can easily decimate their opponents.
6Marco
Affiliation: Whitebeard Pirates
Marco is the former First Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. He joined the crew as an apprentice and, eventually, he became Whitebeard’s most trusted man. Marco possesses the Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix,a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruitthat allows him to morph into a blue phoenix at will.
His Devil Fruit makes him nearly invincible as he can recover from all sorts of injuries. Marco is adept at using Haki, and he usually combines it with his Devil Fruit to bolster the power of his attacks. Marco was even named by the Five Elders as one of the individuals capable of beating Blackbeard in a fight.
Marco temporarily assumed leadership of the crew during the Payback War, so he was never the captain.
5Roronoa Zoro
Affiliation: Straw Hat Pirates
Roronoa Zoro is amongthe few Straw Hatswho actually had made a name for themselves before joining the crew. Zoro was a renowned bounty hunter who went after pirates, and it earned him the moniker of Pirate Hunter.
When Zoro joined the crew, it became clear why he was so feared in East Blue. Zoro’s unique three-sword style makes him stand out from the rest of the competition, and he uses it to beat his opponents. Like all Straw Hats, Zoro’s strength has continued to increase with every passing arc, and currently, he is able to take on opponents with the caliber of Rob Lucci, King. By the end of the series, Zoro would have achieved his goal of becoming the strongest swordsman in the world, and he would be just as popular as his captain.
4Silvers Rayleigh
Affiliation: Roger Pirates
Silvers Rayleigh is one of the few survivingmembers of the Roger Pirates. When Roger approached Rayleigh about starting a crew and turning the world upside down, the latter would never have expected to see it come to fruition. There is no doubt that Roger is indubitably the most famous character in One Piece, but Rayleigh isn’t too far behind.
Introduced in the Sabaody arc, it didn’t take long for Rayleigh to steal the spotlight. He clashed against Admiral Kizaru, who had just ragdolled several members of the Worst Generation and was on the cusp of sending the Straw Hats to prison. Rayleigh not only stopped the Admiral, but he injured him as well. Another evidence of his strength and reputation is when he stopped Blackbeard from taking Hancock’s head on Amazon Lily.
3Kuzan
Affiliation: Blackbeard Pirates
Kuzan used to serve in the Navy but left after a crushing defeat to Sakazuki. Ultimately, he ended upjoining the Blackbeard Piratesand became one of the Ten Titanic Captains. During his time with the Navy, Kuzan served as an Admiral, making him one of the most powerful fighters within the organization.
As a result of his training with Garp, Kuzan’s physical abilities are superior to most One Piece characters. He has an unbelievable amount of strength, which he displayed in the Egghead arc. His Haki control is also splendid. Otherwise, he would never have lasted for ten days against Akainu. Kuzan also possesses the Hie Hie no Mi, a Logia-type Devil Fruit that gives him the power to freeze anything. Presently, he is one of the strongest characters in One Piece.
2Dracule Mihawk
Affiliation: Cross Guild
Dracule Mihawk is the co-founderof the Cross Guild, but due to the mistake of Buggy’s underlings, the whole world perceives him as a loyal henchman of the Yonko. However, fans are aware of Mihawk’s strength, and they know what the swordsman is capable of.
Mihawk is the world’s strongest swordsman, a title that he has held for years without a challenge. He wields Yoru, an all-black blade that falls within the Saijo O-Wazamono bracket. Mihawk has dedicated his life to fighting strong opponents, and he has taken down most of them, save for a few exceptions. Given his accomplishments, there is no doubt that Mihawk is far superior to his captain, Buggy, and he would destroy him in a fight.
1Kozuki Oden
Affiliation: Roger Pirates, Whitebeard Pirates (former)
Kozuki Oden was the daimyo of Kuri, and he was next in line to become the Shogun after Sukiyaki. However, these things seemed trivial to Oden, who wanted to explore the world and see what kind of people and kingdoms exist outside Wano.
Initially, Oden joined the Whitebeard Pirates and became the Second Division Commander. He stayed in the position until he met Roger and heard his proposition, after which he joined the Roger Pirates. While Oden was already strong, his adventures allowed him to grow further. Upon the conclusion of his journey, Oden was able to scar Kaido’s torso. Without Higurashi’s interference, Kaido would have died, and Wano would have been under the rule of the Kozuki Clan.
