Summary

In the world ofOne Piece, Seastones also known as Sea Prism Stones orKairosekiare rare stones found only in the land of Wano with the power to nullifythe devil fruits of different users. Most devil fruit users rely on the fact that they are almost invincible, leading them to act on the already understood notion that exists, being that they are stronger than the average human.

With this preconception, they can be almost invincible; however, this is where Seastones play a role. They reset the logic of these often small-minded pirates and bring them back to reality, letting them know that they can indeed be rendered almost useless. Therefore, both Marines and pirates have access to this game-changing object to help almost even the playing field in theOne Pieceseries.

Origin Of Seastones

The Mystery Behind These Stones

Behind these stones is the element, Pryobloin which absorbs the sea and island clouds, this alone in itself allows the element to hold the properties of the ocean, which in turn makes it difficult for devil fruit users. As the already existing principle is devil fruit users are an enemy of the sea; hence the element that has the ability to absorb the properties of the sea in turn has the ability to make devil fruit users weak as if they were in the ocean.

Additionally, these stones as was seen inthe Wano arccome from Wano Country, the home of the samurais. From this country, this raw material makes its way to other parts of the world and then helps fuel the creation of different types of equipment.

Luffy and Law

Similarly, what these stones look like in their unprocessed form is unknown; however, the effect of these stones is somewhat unique. Seastones as earlier mentioned, embody the ocean, and as such, when placed in the ocean, the effect they give is like it is the ocean itself. Hence, when Sea Kings see these in the ocean, they assume it is the ocean itself. On this note,Dr.Vegapunk utilized this technologyto make Marine ships pass safely through the Calm Belt which was notorious for ships always getting destroyed because no current exist in such waters; hence the name Calm Belt. So, Dr.Vegapunk was able to utilize this element to coat the bottom of ships and make them pass through this calm part of the seas and minimize the potential confrontation with the Sea Kings that often occurs.

Evolution Of The Seastone Technology

Raw Material To Weapon

The first introduction of these stones to viewers was in the Loguetown arc where Smoker used it on Luffy to nullify the power of hisGomu Gomu no Mifruit. The battle was a one-sided duel leading to Luffy being unable to land a solid attack on Smoker due to the use of his seastone jitte weapon. At the initial stage of the series, seastones were only depicted to be used in weapons, cages, or handcuffs. In terms of weapons, Smoker’s Nanshaku Jitte, for cages an example iswhen Crocodile also puts Luffy and Smoker in a cage. In the case of cuffs, they were used as early as in Enies Lobby when Robin was in the arms of CP9, another instance was when Ace was captured and placed for execution in Marineford. These initial uses of Seastone let fans understand that the slightest contact with any object imbued with it drained the powers of even the strongest.

Later Forms Of Development

Seastones later on developed in the series in some other ways. The scientific genius of certain individuals made certain of this. One of the citings of new development was seen after the two-year time skip, as far back as Punk Hazard. In this arc, the SLIME factory that Caesar used to make and test his artificial devil fruits was completely made out of Seastone due to its almost indestructive nature.

Another form was in the creation of seastone spears which Bege used in the Whole Cake Island arcto restrain Caesaralso. This on its own communicates that the Seastone material could with a couple of tinkering be used in more large-scale scientific inventions like bullets; however, these were only non-canon and no concrete information on them has been stated in the series.

Similarly, more innovative creations take the form of nails and lipstick. Nails as a weapon were used by both Hawkins and Hiyori in separate instances to inhibit their victims who were Law and Orochi. By simply sticking them on the individual, the expected effect Seastone causes takes effect. In the case of lipstick, as seen in the Egghead arc, Stussy’s brilliant act of betrayal against her CP0 ‘teammates’ showed fans that her mere placing of lipstick filled with this material was enough to render a big-time individual like Lucci incapable of moving.

Hence, the potential for Seastone is limitless. In the world ofOne Piece, a world filled with brimming top-of-the-league scientists like Vegapunk, Judge, Caesar, and many others, the potential room for development that Seastone has should come as no surprise to fans as the series progresses.

The Impact Of Sestone On The Series

Roles And Future Implications

So far, as the series has progressed, one important thing to consider is the fact that just as much as pirates seek to consume these rare devil fruits, the Marines make it one of their missions to not feel intimidated by them. As such, fans see that most of the development made with the use of Seastone often, if not all the time, comes from the innovation of the Marines, specifically Dr. Vegapunk. Hence, it has helped serve as a tool to help the World Government and the Marines exercise some level of control over the sea.

As most fans are aware, if a big-shot devil fruit user is confined to the shackles of a Seastone instrument, the tide of a battle can instantly change. So, with this in mind, in the current world balance, the World Government, the Marine, Pirates, and the Revolutionary Government will each do their part in ensuring that more subtle or large-scale instruments that can instantly change the tide of a battle are created. So, the potential for new applications of the material grows, and as such, the potential for a way to counter it also grows.
