Summary
AnOverwatch 2Mercy Resurrect ability has caused an allied Pharah to revive in their spawn room. Mercy has always been a valuableOverwatch 2Support hero, but her Resurrect rarely causes returning players as much confusion as this.
WhenOverwatch 2was released, it retained all the heroes from the original game and included its own, like Sojourn. Mercy is one of the predecessor’s characters, being a helpful Support character in both titles. WhileMercy has been buffed and nerfed many timesover the years, she’s notably useful for resurrecting fallen allies, especially in the final seconds of a match. The rez mixed with her powerful heals and ability to increase damage output makes her a significant threat on the battlefield. Despite this, one Mercy player has discovered a flaw related to her Resurrect ability that causes it to do something very strange.
Reddit user UnPtitHusky recently shared a video highlighting a bizarreOverwatch 2play that includes the perspectives of a Mercy and a Pharah. The clip begins by focusing on Mercy, showingtheOverwatch 2Support heroimmediately resurrecting a fallen Pharah while on fire. After the Resurrect animation, Pharah is very briefly shown standing where she was defeated before being warped to another location. From Pharah’s perspective, it’s shown that she was defeated by Orissa’s Javelin before the enemies quickly returned to the capture point. Mercy’s Resurrect goes through and Pharah is reanimated as she would be from the ability, but she returns to the match in the spawn room. As players return to the spawn room after most deaths in a standard match, it was as if Mercy’s ability had failed entirely.
This Overwatch 2 Mercy Rez Didn’t Work as Intended
Because Mercy’s ability worked despite transporting Pharah to the spawn room, her Resurrect was put on cooldown. Mercy tried to revive Pharah as three members of their team captured the Well point on Ilios with 95% completion versus the opponent’s 92%. The clip concludes with the allied team hitting 98%, but that doesn’t assure victory, as all that’s required to stop the uptick is one enemy to stand on the point. Many matches have been won in overtime with one player holding the capture point as their team arrives moments later to retake it. As this was such a tight match, the ability’s failure may have cost them the victory and put their team on the third stage ofOverwatch 2’s Ilios map.
Given how rarely this happens when Mercy revives a downed ally, Pharah was likely affected by a strange glitch. As Blizzard continues to updateOverwatch 2, it may discover what the problem was and fix it in a subsequent update.
