Overwatch 2is about halfway through Super Mega Ultrawatch, its 11th batch of seasonal content since the sequel shooter dropped. Though the season has included some exciting content, such as the new Runasapi map and theTransformerscollab, its headlining feature has been thePower Rangers-esque Battle Pass, which featuressentai and kaiju skins for the heroes ofOverwatch 2.
However,Overwatch 2fan and Redditor Shattered_Disk4 recently realized the Battle Pass missed a perfect chance to call back to the actualPower Rangersseries. John Tui, the voice actor forMauga inOverwatch 2, starred in severalPower Rangersshows in the past, with Daggeron, the Solaris Knight fromPower Rangers Mystic Force, being his most well-known role. Shattered_Disk4 pointed out this fact, saying it was a shame Mauga didn’t get a skin hearkening back to his voice actor’s actual history as a Power Ranger.
Before Daggeron, Tui appeared inPower Rangers S.P.D. as both Sergeant Silverback and Commander Anubis Cruger, the Shadow Ranger. He later voiced the kaiju monster Pestilox fromPower Rangers Samurai. While less iconic than his appearance as the Solaris Knight, a callback to one of these roles would have been equally awesome inOverwatch 2Season 11.
Shattered_Disk4’s fellow fans agreed that a skin referencing any of these roles would have been amazing, even if it would have been a nightmare due to copyright lawswithout a full-blownOverwatch 2collaboration withPower Rangers. A few players pointed out that a Solaris Knight skin might not have worked well due to Mauga’s huge build, but others suggested Solar Streak – Daggeron’s Megazord – would have been a great way to get around that. This sparked discussion of other theoretical skins that could reference former voice actor roles, such as aDestiny 2Saladin skin for Reaper.
At the very least, Mauga did still get some love on this Battle Pass.Overwatch 2fans can unlock the Port-De-Paix skin for Mauga, rendering the massive mercenary in the breezy red shirt seen in his earliest appearances in Baptiste’s backstory duringOverwatch 1. This skin even has a special detail when paired with the new Breezy highlight intro, also obtained from the Season 11 Battle Pass, as it equips Mauga with a refreshing cocktail.
