Summary

Some players of the newOverwatch 2Clash mode are voicing their complaints about what they see as a frustrating match flow, and are also making suggestions aimed at fixing it. Clash mode debuted inOverwatch 2with the launch of Season 12 on June 20, 2025.

Overwatch 2is seeing a new surge of activity as players old and new flood in to try out the new content that launched with Season 12. Chief among the new offerings is theOverwatch 2Support hero Juno, the game’s newest playable character. The Martian astronaut is also joined by a new game mode called Clash, which involves teams struggling to capture a series of control points along a mirrored map.

Unfortunately, players are complaining about Clash, saying the mode is host to frustrating flaws related to the way points are distributed to teams for taking capture points. According to commentators like streamer Kevin Walker, flaws in the point distribution method contribute to too many “anticlimactic"Clash matches inOverwatch 2.

Players Call Overwatch 2 Clash Matches ‘Anticlimactic’ Due To Point Flaws

In a tweet on the subject, Walker praised recent improvements to Clash mode from its earlier trial runs, such as adjustments to the point distribution for attackers capturing the last node. However, he opposed the system awarding a point to defenders for capturing the locations closest to their respective spawn point, becauseOverwatch 2Clash map designheavily favors defending teams when close to a team spawn. As a result, too many matches have an attacking team mounting an exciting comeback end up losing because the defenders retake their final spawn to win on points. For viewers, the dynamic is anticlimactic, and can even feel “undeserved” for the winners.

Walker suggested that, at a minimum, Clash mode should be adjusted not to award a point on retake to defenders when under match point conditions. Such a change would prevent less exciting victories and preserve the drama of a comeback win for attackers. Other players on communities like the CompetitiveOverwatchsubreddit suggested an alternative solution, like increasing the point rewards for attackers and increasing the overall victory threshold to 6 or 7 points. This solution would pressure defenders to push back harder when fending off a reversal.

Blizzard has rekindled excitement for its landmark hero shooter, as players try outall the new additions forOverwatch 2Season 12. Besides the arrival of Juno, many players are trying out Clash, which strongly resembles the beloved (if unbalanced) Assault mode from the original game. The recently highlighted flaws in Clash could dampen some of that excitement, though, so it could be in Blizzard and the community’s interest to address the most urgent complaints about the new mode.
