Summary
As a part of the monster-capturing genre,Palworldhas a few features that allow it to try and define itself from the rest of its competition. It has several features common among games of its type, but it also has a few that allow it to distinguish itself due to its survival gameplay elements. However, several thoughtthe Sakurajima update was a good sign for an underbaked feature, as the patch could have changed it enough to helpPalworldfurther stand out. While that may not be the case, it at least emphasizes what fans believe Pocketpair should address in the future.
The release of the major Sakurajima update provided many additions that improved different aspects ofPalworld. For single-player, one of the more notable changes would be the inclusion of a new faction called the Moonflower Clan. Situated on the aptly named Sakurajima Island, they are a Japanese culture-inspired group whose purpose is unclear but dangerous nonetheless to anyone who gets involved with them. Players believed that their addition would mean Pocketpair was finally improving the factions to make them more than just stronger enemies to take down. Unfortunately, that’s not what happened, and now the game has one more group with the same issue as the rest: being an important element whose potential is heavily underutilized.
What a Future Major Update Can Do to Help Improve Palworld’s Factions
The underwhelmingMoonflower Clan inPalworldemphasizes that Pocketpair should focus on beefing up established factions to make them better instead of simply adding more to the game. Although there are diary entries that give them and their leaders more character and personality, obtaining the items requires a lot of effort and is ultimately not worth it for bits and pieces of information about who they are and their purpose. If the developer decides to implement changes to factions in the next major update, then there are a few ways that they could improve:
If such changes were to be properly implemented, they could result in anothermassive player spike forPalworld. Those who play games with survival and RPG elements will appreciate a title that can masterfully expand on its characters and world. Although it didn’t manage to do so from the start, Pocketpair’s creation still has a chance to do so and attract more people to enjoy what it offers.
Why Pocketpair Should Not Add More Factions for Now
The tower bosses ofPalworldand their associated factions need to undergo a few changes if they want to become more than what they are. Adding more to the list will only result in the game being oversaturated with groups without substance, making them feel shallow instead of the threatening force they should be.
Not only will it emphasize the current issues but it could even lead to the development of new ones; for example, players who realize the lack of impact of adding new factions in the game could lead to them being ignored.
This means that the efforts placed on the character and combat design of the groups could potentially go to waste, something that shouldn’t happen. With that said, Pocketpair should consider not adding any new factions until they can change and improve the state of the current ones, all for the sake of avoiding the problems that plague them now.
The factions ofPalworldneed to change so that the qualities that they possess are used to their fullest potential. More isn’t always better, especially when what’s already in-game suffers. If the developer decides to take some time to look at how its current factions can improve, such iterations could turnPalworldinto a staple of the monster-capturing and survival genres.
