The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics turned quite a bit of heads in the gaming community due to its final torchbearer, who looked and acted like anAssassin’s Creedprotagonist. The July 26 event has consequentlygiven a big player count boost toAssassin’s Creed Unity, the only mainline entry in the long-running franchise that is predominantly set in Paris.
AC Unity Player Recreates Olympics Parkour Outfit With Sans-Culottes Hood
Part of that group of new and returningAC Unityplayers is Reddit user Shashwats7777, who recently decided to recreate theparkour outfit from the Olympics 2024 opening ceremonyin the game. The end result of their efforts is fairly close to the memorable costume, and does a good job at illustrating why some fans are convinced that the final torchbearer at the late July ceremony was intended as a tribute to Ubisoft’s long-running series. Namely, the player’s getup utilizes Arno’s default torso and pants, which don’t exactly match the colors of the Olympic parkour outfit but are otherwise fairly similar to it.
Shashwats7777 also opted to include the Sans-Culottes Hood in their design. Elaborating on that decision, the fan explained that this piece of headgear was based on the Phrygian caps, a type of revolutionary headwear that was used as the inspiration for the Phryges, the official mascots of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The player hence concluded that it made sense to incorporate the Sans-Culottes Hood into the Olympics-inspired getup. A matching pair of Sans-Culottes Bracers is also part of their recently sharedAssassin’s Creed Unityoutfit.
The main thing missing from the attire is the fencing mask that the final Olympics 2024 torchbearer used to hide their identity while they were parkouring across rooftops and running through the Louvre. There’s nothing Shashwats7777 could have done about this aspect of the outfit, as the game doesn’t include any similar masks that Arno can wear.
Nevertheless, Shashwats7777’s valiant attempt at capturing the essence of the costume underlines the fandom’s growingdesire for Ubisoft to add the Olympics outfit toAssassin’s Creed Unity. That doesn’t seem too likely to happen, however, as introducing new content to an 11-year-old and largely single-player game would be a near-unprecedented move on Ubisoft’s part.
