Persona 3 Reloadis set to receive the update ofFES' The Answer in itsupcoming Episode Aigis DLC, and it’s going to shift its focus to Aigis as the player character following the story of the base game. This new dynamic is sure to bring players closer to the character as they explore her perspective, but this change also comes with the inclusion of a brand-new character who essentially takes over the previous role of Aigis. She has never been much of a fan-favorite in the years since her introduction, but this modernized take on The Answer could see more emphasis onPersona 3’s Metis than ever before.
The somber conclusion ofPersona 3 Reload’s narrative makes it tough to satisfactorily follow up with an additional story, which has led to The Answer being viewed with some controversy in retrospect. Leaving behind many of the more personal Social Link aspects, this Aigis-centric scenario doesn’t necessarily offer the same appeal as the protagonist Makoto’s journey. With this expansion delving more deeply into the psyche of its exclusive player character, however, the character who represents a reflection of Aigis lies at its core.

A Foil to Aigis to Balance Role Changes
The events ofPersona 3’s The Answerfollow the remaining members of SEES as they find themselves trapped within a mysterious time loop in the Abyss of Time, and Metis appears to them under these circumstances. As the expansion sees Aigis in the protagonist role and focuses on her growing sense of humanity, Metis seemingly embodies the robot directives that initially defined Aigis' mission to protectP3’s player character.
The Final Addition to SEES
She initially has a dubious role, but Metis quickly ends up joining the player’s party in order to maintain a semblance of its classic structure. With the ability to use theWild Card to access any Personabeing given to Aigis in this scenario, what used to be her signature ability in Orgia Mode is instead made available through Metis. The potential build on Metis' Persona, Psyche, can be compared to an offensively oriented Aigis in the base game, and she does come with some streamlined aspects to her Neo Orgia Mode.

The Truth of Metis' Existence is Revealed in the Ending of The Answer
Players of the base game’s story, known as The Journey, will already be familiar with the fact that Aigis is a machine created by the Kirijo Group toseal Death as Nyx away, but the lore behind Metis isn’t as cleanly tied to the rules of reality. Exploring the Abyss of Time leads to an introspective look into each of the party’s origins and identities, all while reflecting on the loss of their previous leader. Metis provides key insight into humanity’s darkness as the player reaches the finale, but it’s only in the epilogue that her nature is revealed.
When all of SEES issummoned into the Velvet Roomat the end of The Answer, Metis is shown to be a manifestation of Aigis' emotional side following her attempt to become an unfeeling machine after the protagonist’s death. As an entirely metaphysical being, she serves as a split part of Aigis which is ultimately reintegrated to create a complete identity. In The Answer’s focus on questioning the conclusion of the base game, Metis acts as a constant reminder of aspects of the self that cannot be cast off or ignored, a through line that is likely to only be strengthened inPersona 3 Reload’s depiction.
