Flying-type Pokemon are useful at the start of anyone’sPokemonjourney, and inBrilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, you’ll likely need one for the second gym. There are a handful of early-game Flying-type that you’re able to catch, such as Starly, but then there are Pokemon such as Chatot. Like Starly, Chatot is a Normal/Flying-type. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to catch the Music Note Pokemon until you’re on your way to get the last gym badge. If you’re aiming to catch every Pokemon in the Sinnoh or National Pokedex, then you’ll eventually need to add Chatot to your PC Box. InBrilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, there are three ways to get Chatot without having to trade online.
Where to Find Chatot
Chatot Location
Chatot only appears in the wild during the Morning and Day. You can reset the Switch’s clock in Settings if necessary. Chatot can be caught on Route 222 and Route 224:
You don’t need tocatchevery Pokemon in the Sinnoh Dex to get the National Dex. If you’re missing a box-legendary (ie: Dialga or Palkia), fly to Celestic Town and speak to Cynthia’s grandmother. She’ll mention Palkia (Brilliant Diamond)/Dialga (Shining Pearl) and it will be added to the Sinnoh Dex.
How to Get Chatot Early
Trade in Eterna City
If you don’t have a Flying-type or Fire-type for the Eterna City gym, or you just want Chatot early, then you can trade for one in Eterna City. Enter the buildingnext to the Poke Mart, and speak to the kid at the table on the first floor. They will trade you a Chatot in exchange for a Buizel.
Buizels can be caught on Route 205 and at the Valley Windworks.
Like all Pokemon you receive in trades, the traded Chatot will have a different Trainer ID from yours, and it will earn double experience in battle. You alsowon’t be able to change its nickname. Here are the stats of the Chatot in Eterna City:

Moves:
The Leppa Berry that Charap is holding can be used to cook Poffins in Hearthome City. If you leave it on Charap, then it will be consumed when the PP of one of Charap’s moves drops to 0. Leppa Berries restore 10PP.

Chatot is a good Pokemon to have if you get it early in your adventure, but its low base stats may discourage trainers from using it in the late-game phase ofBrilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. Fortunately,its learnset fits its dual-typingrather well. If you’re going to use Chatot, you should familiarize yourself with its stats and strengths/weaknesses:

While none of Chatot’s base stats break triple digits, its 91 Speed coupled with 92 Special Attack make it a swift battler. As such, you’rebetter off using it as a special attacker. On the downside, Chatot has very poor Special Defense and Defense, meaning you’ll want to keep it away from Electric, Rock, and Ice-type moves.

Ghost, Ground
Chatot’s Normal-typing gives it immunity to Ghost and Ground-type moves. However, it can still be hit by these attacks if the Mold Breaker Ability is in effect or if the move Gravity is used.

Egg Move
- Chatot can only learn Boomburst if you breeda Pokemon from a previous generationthat had this move. In this case, you would need to have bred a male Noivern that knew Boomburst with a female Chatot. This would pass down Boomburst to the offspring Chatot. Unfortunately, the only way to do this was to breed Noivern and Chatot inPokemon X/Y. You would then need to transfer the Egg or the hatched Chatot toBrilliant Diamond/Shining PearlviaPokemon HOMEandPokemon Bank.
