Summary
A talentedPokemonfan has given one of the series' oldest creatures a brand-new form in some impressive concept artwork for an Arbok Mega Evolution. The cobra-like Pokemon may be an unlikely choice for a Mega Evolution, but that didn’t stop the artist from designing an incredible piece and sharing it withPokemonfans online.
Arbok is one of the original 150 Pokemon and is the evolved form of Ekans, both of which appear as large, purple snakes. WhenMega Evolutions debuted inPokemon XandY,the cobra Pokemon was excluded from the roster of characters that received a Mega form, along with countless others.

Luckily for fans of Arbok, Reddit user Conehead shared their concept for a Mega Arbok with the officialPokemonsubreddit, depicting it as a massive serpent with two mouths. Fans in the replies were quick to point out how frightening it was, with the design leaning intosome of the more scary aspects of thePokemonfranchise.
Pokemon Fan’s Mega Arbok Design Gives The Creature A Spooky Overhaul
The proposed Mega form also transforms Arbok into a Dark type Pokemon with a new ability called Frighten. Poison, its original type, becomes secondary. According to the artist, Frighten, an ability they invented for the design, would lower opponents' speed by one stage as soon as Arbok’s Mega form appears on the battlefield.
The addition of the Dark type along with Arbok’s new ability adds to the spooky nature of the design as a whole, with the creature featuring a massive set of frills underneath its head and two sets of sharp fangs. While it didn’t make it into the artist’s final design, one concept for Mega Arbok mimickedthe legendary Pokemon Arceus, with large yellow crests emerging from its sides.
SincePokemon typically have a shiny form, the artist also provided a concept for Arbok’s as well, giving it an all-white appearance with dark red eyes on its frill. Shared alongside the final piece of art, the early concepts for Mega Arbok imagined the frills becoming slightly larger, with the early sketches showing variations in the spots along its body.
Aside from Arbok, the original poster also seemingly has ideas for other Mega as well, as they shared a chart depicting the first-generation Pokemon who have yet to receive one. On the diagram, they marked off which Pokemon already have a Mega form, along with which ones received a new evolution later and which ones they have already created art for, such as Muk, Koffing, and Parasect, among others.
