Summary
A talentedPokemonfan has recently created two alternative forms for Omanyte, reimagining the fossil-like creature with different sub-types: Poison and Electric. Redesigning Pokemon by changing their types is a very popular trend inPokemonfan art, and these alternative Omanyte forms stand out due to their high quality and the artist’s creativity.
Omanyte is one of the few Pokemon inspired by fossils to appear in the franchise. Originally introduced inPokemon’s Gen 1, Omanyte is a Water/Rock-type monster that evolves into Omastar at Level 40. InPokemon Red and Blue, this creature can only be acquired by visiting Mount Moon’s bottom level and picking up the Helix Fossil instead of the Dome Fossil. If the players do that, they can later revive the fossil to get the Omanyte, instead of a Kabuto. To acquire both Omanyte and Kabuto in the same game, a player would need to trade Pokemon with a friend.
Now, one prolificPokemonfan artist called Matratzfratz has decided to reimagine Omanyte, giving it a Water/Electric-type and a Water/Poison-type form. Omanyte’s “Thunder Form” turns the iconic fossil monster into a thunder-shaped creature with a long shell. The new “Race Form,” on the other hand, essentially changes Omanyte’s shell to become a spiked car tire and gives the Pokemon racing glasses.
Omanyte’s New Race and Thunder Forms
Previously, Matratzfratz has created many kinds ofPokemonfan art, including Mega evolutions, ability forms, and alternative-type creatures. In one of their most recent works, the prolificartist devised three new ability forms for Cubone. In these new designs, the Pokemon was depicted as a knight, a monster with a rock head, and as a monster with a lightning rod on its skull helmet.
While some old-school fans may have a soft spot for Omanyte, it’s hard to say that this creature is among the most popular Pokemon ever created. However, some fans do love this fossil-inspired critter. A few years ago, for example, aPokemonfan created a mini LEGO version of Omanyte, which looked cute.
Other fans have also created unofficial content inspired by pre-historic Pokemon. For example, one player has recently designedMega evolutions for Tyrantrum and Aurorus. In this artwork, the two dinosaur-inspired creatures appear fiercer than ever with bigger bodies and covered in spikes, in Tyrantrum’s case, or additional heads in Aururus’. Hopefully,Pokemonfans will keep creating amazing fan art regarding classic pre-historic creatures of the franchise and share their best works with the community.
